Haven't made a fresh .us reg in awhile but stumbled onto this one tonight. Taken in all extensions including all of the minor country codes. Very versatile for computer hardware, cars, motorcycles, etc. Like other .us I won't be selling it for a few years while we see how the extension develops. What do you think of the potential for this one?

P.S. I was just thinking that among other things this would be a good name for a fan site or ezine about NASCAR racing. It is an All-American form of auto racing so it would match the extension very well

Indeed a very nice find at this (relatively) late stage in .US reg. game. Even typing in "TOPSPEED" as one word in Google returns over 20K results; "TOP SPEED" gives 375K. Good Luck!

I agree. And, here you are discussing a DEVELOPED fan site or ezine about NASCAR racing. In this scenario, I would also advise that you "protect your investment" by securing the domain, "TopSpeedUS.com". I know this may sound a little silly to you now ... but for DEVELOPED ".US" sites, I think it'll prove a wise move over time.
Good Luck.

NHRA would definitely work too. Top Fuel is of course their key division (and that name is also taken in .us). There are a boatload of solid "Top Speed" business references in Google both for cars & motorcycles and computers so I liked the versatility. The more entities that can use it the better.

What are you going to use Lipps.us for? I remember a band called Lipps Inc. from the early 80's.

Yes it does, especially since it represents thinking mired in 1999. It's 2003 now Host! Time to throw away those old .COM crutches. If I didn't think .US could walk on it's own I would never have bought the domain in the first place. :)

P.S. I said I would look to sell it in a few years. I only mentioned possible development uses. If the person who eventually develops it wants to go out and get that .com they are more than welcome to do it. Though by 2006 I think that idea will look even more ludicrous than it does now.

YOU put it up for appraisal, Duke! We could go on and on with our philosophical differences regarding the future potential of the ".US" ... but I seem to recall a very wise member here at one time also stating that the "protection of your invesment" may not be such a bad idea ... for a DEVELOPED non-.com domain!
Do YOU have any idea WHO that might have been, Duke?? :)
Naturally, I always will wish you the very best!! Seriously.
Good Luck.

You seem to have a reading comprehension problem Host and a spotty memory at best. :)

If you will go back and read the post I began this thread with I clearly said "I won't be SELLING this domain for a few years". I said nothing about developing it myself, only pointed out a variety of ways it could be used.

So that you won't mislead people into believing I endorse your thinking - below is the exact post I made that you are referring to:

"Of course it's available - unlike centuries.us, centuriesus.com is a crappy name. Just how will this protect his investment if he plans to sell the name rather than develop it? If he is going to sell it, any buyer will be a believer in .us to begin with and will not give him a penny more for the .com "bonus" name. If he is going to develop it himself and wants to spend $8 to catch potential type-in mistakes, then I can accept that."

I said IF a developer wants to spend the extra $8 I can accept that - that's his business not mine. Saying I can accept it, doesn't mean I think it's a good idea - I don't and I personally would not waste the $8.

Yes, Top Speed was a sequel to Speed. Good luck with your new Lipps!

Did you add/edit this after? Perhaps I missed it altogether. Sorry.
Ok, I 'assumed development ... but I stand by my comments. Whomever does develop it should obtain that "insurance", yes. Finally, you THINK the idea of this insurance for ".US" will look even more ludicrous in the future (by 2006). Fine. I hope you're right, but I don't necessarily agree. Thanks.
Good Luck.
PS. Am sorry I missed your "PS", too.

But that movie was in the 90's, not in the 80's.

Top Gun was 80's.

No problem Host. We are here to exchange ideas. We've been on the same side of several issues and will remain on opposite sides of this one (at least until the passage of time proves one of us right or wrong). :)

LOL. It's been a long day, but thanks for reminding me! :)

"PS. Am sorry I missed your "PS", too."

I am. See above as to why.

Finally, my "may not be such a bad idea ... for a DEVELOPED non-.com domain" AND your "If he is going to develop it himself and wants to spend $8 to catch potential type-in mistakes, then I can accept that."" aren't that much different, in my opinion. No worries (on my end). :)
Good Luck.

I agree with his take on new tlds, and how to approach them...

generics and fitting the tld if possible, but I wouldn't necessarily assume newer tlds (general, non restricted or not- sponsored) are years away.

And there is a wild cowboy .com market out there. Fastest scripts and partnerships win.

But people do have unbelieveably bad taste in names - because they way overestimate the .com - and I guess have bad taste/naming sense
