I was about to transfer a .com domain to Total Registrations when I first decided to read the Terms and Conditions: http://www.totalregistrations.com/About_us/terms_tr.html

I noticed that point 7.4 below states that if you do not renew your domain, then total registrations can keep, transfer or sell the domain name.

Is this a standard thing with all registras or is it just Total who do this ?

7.4. Should you fail to renew your domain name prior to a 10 (ten) day grace period, you agree that we may, in our sole discretion, delete the domain name registration, or on your behalf renew and transfer the domain name to a third party buyer identified by us (such a transaction is hereinafter referred to as a “Post Term Renewal and Transfer”).

Sure it's "standard". Many registrars will try to sell an expired domain name via
auction or delete it if no one's interested.

Check Go Daddy, Enom, Network Solutions, even Moniker. Many of them do it.

All the more reason never to let your domain name/s expire, no matter what.
