Does it matter what a domain name is if it receives a large amount of traffic. For example:

xyzyxzyzxyxyzx.com receives 1000 unique hits a day.

(this is just a made up example)

Is this name worth something?

If so what do you do with such a name?

of course its worth something. You can easily sell that traffic to PPC places that park your page. The name value itselfs is worthless, it doesnt mean anything, just a random name. But the fact that it gets typeins is good, and thats why it would be worth money

Someone may have very nice sounding name but if no one types it in the browser , it wont have much value. What really matters is the traffic (equals $$).

Traffic has some inherent value. However, the quality of the traffic is more important. For example:

xyzyxzyzxyxyzx.com - would someone typing that into their browser be looking to buy something? (which is where the real money is, i.e. when someone is looking to buy)

ties.com - a successful site selling neckties. How many ties do they sell simply because they are so easy to find? How many long-term customers were acquired just because of the name?

If xyzyxzyzxyxyzx.com pulled in 100 type-ins per day, and ties.com pulled in 50, which would have the more valuable traffic?
xyz... 100/day x $.001 = $0.10/day = $36.50/yr
ties 50/day x $.20 = $10.00/day = $3650.00/yr

I see, What about if xyzyxzyzxyxyzx.com receives 1000 typo hits a day. Is the value now different?

If you can determine what the typo is, and if you can direct the traffic to some sort of program that is related to the typo (i.e. your domain is hptels.com, and you can figure that they meant hotels.com), then the traffic will be more valuable than if you simply redirect it to a ppc.
