... McChesney, who has been "hugely anti-gun" since his brother shot him in the face with a BB gun when he was a child...

Ouch!

What? You have to be kidding me. That's the reason he has an anti-gun stance? That's funny.

With the Titanic comment, maybe Fred McChesney meant something like:

"The ship sunk and many lives were lost so it doesnt matter what I do regarding the registration of domains related to the event as my actions are harmless and won't change anything."

That's my interpretation. Anyone else understand what he's talking about?

"Everyone is profiting off of this," McChesney said. "I'm not hurting anyone."

This matter will keep coming up, especially with the elections coming up.

Two of my coworkers have their children graduating from Va Tech this Saturday. I am sure it is going to be a surreal experience. She jokingly said she needs valium to get through it. Perhaps it was not a joke.

One coworker says she already had her box of Kleenex packed up.

Those are the folks that I am sure would love to read these comments and have their own opinions regarding domainers. But, I know better than to show this article.

i dont understand why people reg these names, the profit they make isnt even worth the bad reputation they get if any profit is made at the end of the day, i still remmeber all the pope domains being registered when the new pope was being elected, i doubt even 2 of them were sold.

Its the bottom feeders that reg these domains, newbies that think they can make big bucks off a fast reg, they could care less about reputation or the industry, to them the industry hasn't paid off for them yet.

True.

It doesn't help when the reporters put things like 'many similar names selling for thousands of dollars...' - that's not true. I doubt any similar name has sold for $xxxx

I would love to make money on clicks every time Britney Spears does too much drugs and decides to do some stupid shit in a random club. But I would never make money off people's suffering and tragic events like the Virginia shootings. That kind of behavior puts every domainer in a bad light and we don't really need that do we. But as RaiderGirl says, I doubt any pro domainers register these kind of names and that it is mostly the newbies or people that are not in the domain industry at all, hoping to make a quick buck.

Exactly - they are at the very bottom of the learning curve. Never earned a buck and not likely to either.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. The most controversial domain to be regged out of all this was a "pro domainer" along with many, many others.

Their rationale? If not me, then someone else...you're just jealous...if the media can make money off of it, then so can I.

Those three arguments kept coming up time after time after time.

Who wins the best argument of all? The Media...if someone wants to use the rationale that it is okay because the media is glorifying it and making money off of it? then you have to use the same argument for the media glorifying and making money off stories like this and the dumbass stupid moves and lame excuses and quotes in media by domainers that place domainers in the spotlight. It is these feature stories that will be on people's minds.

I think overall domainers perhaps make up a small portion of the population. Nice to see that we are in the news...

"So far, he hasn't sold any."

But let's make an entire news story about it to give the domaining industry a bad name.

At least this wasn't as bad as the last article on the subject that all but blamed GoDaddy for people's registrations.
