Hello, does anyone have any experiences/tips they can share about transferring a domain name away from Network Solutions? Earlier this month I tried transferring a name from NetSol to GoDaddy, and I was told by GoDaddy that the transfer had failed, and that NetSol was to fault. Is this sort of thing common... NetSol denying outbound transfers for "customer retention"? Is there any way around this?

You should be able to transfer domain name from NetSol to godaddy. Check your domain name email address and make sure it is not lock from Netsol.

I was able to transfer domains from Netsol to enom, it is the same process for godaddy transfer.

Hope this help.

I have done 5-6 transfers from NOTworksultions to eNom without a problem. I know that NSI takes like 5-6 days to send the approval from their end however.

However, with my latest name, I am having some problems. I initiate the transfer from eNom and get that approval, but I seem to never get teh approval from NSI. I have called them several times and they assure me the name is NOT in registrar lock. So I keep trying. This problem has been in the last 2-3 weeks.

I see this situation come up all the time....I think NS makes the confirmation email seem like spam and mail server-- filters will filter them out. It's just weird that ALL of NS emails can make it to you but mysteriously the confirmation emails don't...hmmmm

They are such a shady bunch!!!

I tell you what:

I transferred a domain name from NetSol to GoDaddy a couple of months ago. It was denied during the first time (as usual) even though I never received any e-mail from NetSol (I am getting TONS of e-mail everyday with no problem and I'm TOO experienced to have left out any important message). So I called the loser .. hm ... losing registrar (i.e. NetSol) and make sure that the domain was not locked for any reason. They assured me that everything's fine and asked me to re-initiate it at the new registrar (i.e. GoDaddy) which I did. This time, I got the famous (or infamous) transfer-away e-mail, confirmed it and was told okay.

Then the strange thing happened: GoDaddy now told me that the transfer was denied once again. I called GoDaddy, they said it's NetSol's problem and they couldn't do anything; then I called NetSol, and they said they have already released the name. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. You think the winning registrar will help since they are getting a new business? NO! They don't seem to care. (This also makes me seriously rethink my relationship with GoDaddy, but that's another story.)

I could have waited for a couple of days for the whois to show up but I just couldn't risk losing that domain name. I kept calling them both back and forth for the next few hours with no avail, and then waited the longest 24 hours of my life. It's a happy ending finally, but I just want to share with you guys how terrible it could be.

Thanks d'backs for your message. I must admit that I was a bit over-anxious then. I have done literally HUNDREDS of ownership and/or registrar transfer before and were totally upset first by NetSol/Verisign, and then by Register.com/NameBargain.com. Now I won't put all my eggs in one basket, not even with GoDaddy. (Sorry, please don't tell me eNom is better or the best which I honestly disagree.) I guess it's in my best interest to become a reseller myself with OpenSRS/Tucows once I have time to set it up. Their prices are a bit higher, but their operation model is just ... sexy.

So... does anyone here agree that the best way to transfer a domain away from NetSol is to transfer it to enom or GoDaddy?

I am hit by the same problem. :(

enom and GoDaddy are the best, but don't forget that netsol transfers need a few repeated attempt sometimes.

Is there a 60 day hold on transferring new domains? I know Enom has that policy, and I was under the impression it was an ICANN rule.

I haven't done an outbound Verisign transfer in a few months. I have one underway right now going to opensrs.

What's the current wait before you get the Verisign "Are you sure you want to do this" email? Two days?

Did you accept the transer request from Verisign? They make those emails look like spam so you delete them, so be careful. They expire in 5 days, if you don't approve or disapprove.

Mine just came through.

Actually, I'm lucky: Verislime has never screwed up a transfer request of mine.

Of course, they've screwed me in every other way, the bastards.
