Ok, here is a smallish list of 3 character names, NO numbers , that have expired and will drop soonish: Forgive me if I have let one slip thru the cracks and it is now regged.

A good list if you are into snaps etc

Many members here object to this kind of post. What is the point of increasing the competition by letting everyone know before a name drops what is available. Others will argue that it is your right to make this type of post, but what is the point? Please thinks about this and be considerate of other at DNF.

Interesting to see a negative comment like this:

Not that I even need to explain myself to you but for the benefit of all reading the thread here goes:

Many new members wouldn't even have a clue on how to source this type of information, so any direction or help they can get from a community like DNF surely has to be positive one. After all this is a forum for offering help to new members as well isn't it.

And the actual reason for making the post? Why not. Share the great names around.

I can only assume you yourself have had an eye on a few of the above and see this post as an unnecesary helping hand to those that were not aware of these drops.

Although some may complain about the post this is the forum description:-

"For discussion of all the aspects of expiring domains including expiring domain services, etc."

The post does not contravene that description and the fact that some don't like this type of post is not a good enough reason for such posts not to be made.

This whole thing has been discussed so many times in the past on so many threads.

If a member has done lots of research and is trying to catch these names, then posting this information reduces that members chances of getting the names. None of this has anything to do with the forum rules. It is ok under the rules. But, ask yourself, why are you doing this? This is a very competitive business. If you feel good about helping out some beginners, I guess that makes it worth it to you. Keep in mind that you are ticking off other people who have done their homework and invested many hours of their time. Assuming that WLS goes live this month, the arena will be switching to WLS for the really valuable .com and .net names, but the principles will still apply.

With the possible exception of the 'dashed' names, I doubt that many of these domains were available at SnapNames or GoDaddy, the only fixed price (and fairly ineffective) drop catchers. If your initials are here, it is likely more of a service for those who want to enter the fray for a particular one at NW or Pool.

For myself, I have tracked many names and had them in at all of the 'open' services (SN, GD, Pool, & NW) and have lost all but a handful with regard to anything of significance.

I wish all luck but I doubt that this will hurt anything. Admittedly, a Snap or a GoDaddy DO ocassionally win but, again, and especially with regard to 2 or 3 letter names, they are likely already snapped months before. I am not a 2-3 letter guy but where I have checked something and noticed that there was even a hint of possible expiration, I have found it always Snapped and usually 'Go Daddied' too!

No, this type of post does not break the rules, but it does tick off a lot of people.

But lets face it.

The days when only a couple of people were chasing a good dropping name are LONG gone. With the implementation of the thirty day grace period, this effectively shut off all the sudden drops. People have thirty days to scour the lists to find great names.

Additionally, people filter the drop lists through dictionary lists. My word lists is a FoxPro table with over 532,000 words. You can effectively trim a drop list of 20,000 words down to a couple hundred with minimal effort. The result? Everybody knows about these names. trust me, BuyDomains knows about them. If they know about them (and they do), they chasethem AND bid at pool. You really think you can beat BD or any of the big boys at pool?

I am not trying to be crass, but lets face reality. The days of free lunches are LONG gone. If a good name is dropping, then everybody knows about it.

It use to be, that having advance knowledge allowed you to secure a SnapNames on a domain. And, the Snap gave you a 50 - 70% chance of securing it.

Today, A Snap gives you a 10% chance of securing it. And, Pool gives you a 50 - 70% chance. Assuming you are willing to bid aggressively for it.

Bob is correct. There is no more free lunches.

And, anybody who wants to know about what 3 letter name is dropping can go to 6 different free places to attain the information quickly.

Bob,

I agree with you on the obvious good names, but I pick up good domains every day that are not bid at Pool and have no Snap. My point is: Why make this info more available than it already is?

Nice list DotCom - Many of us already had these domains in the radar so no big deal. We look out at least 60 days so this list is old news but to many it is helpful. Good Job - Steve

I don't like these types of posts but 3 letter names are known by every man & their dog... hardly any work is involved with finding out what 3 letter names are dropping.

Oh & actnow... I think you are being generous saying you have 10% chance with snapnames... I would put them @ 2% - 3%. :-D
