There have always been questions surrounding the men.com sale. A piece of the puzzle was revealed today, when it was learned that the transaction also included dirtyjokes.com. Screenshot with the proof (from the buyer, KRL) at:

http://www.loffs.com/images/dirtyjokes-men.gif

(that's from an adult webmaster board, so I didn't included a link -- anyone needs the link, just send a PM)

Thus, it's evident that a portfolio of names was included in the reported men.com transaction, with dirtyjokes.com being one of the known names (might be other elements to the transaction that we don't know about, yet). Given the Overture stats for dirtyjokes.com, and the fact that it was written into the deal, it's obviously a non-trivial element of the transaction which until now went undisclosed from all press releases, etc. It makes me wonder whether any other important omissions took place.

Like Roger Maris' home run record, this means an asterisk should be placed next to the men.com "sale", or reported to include a portfolio of other names (including dirtyjokes.com, for sure).

Like I said before, men.com is a VERY good name. It could be a high-end, mainstream portal for men, instead of some dirty jokes. Pending launch in November, so let's wait and see. To be honest though, the logo (the blue M/MEN circle) is not particularly impressive.

That posting is ambiguous, though.

When I bought my last car, the dealer threw in a baseball cap for free. Did I buy a car, or a car and a baseball cap? That message, by its own terms, states that they were "nearing the end", and that dirtyjokes.com was thrown in without having a monetary value assigned to it.

I'd say it counts as valuable consideration. Obviously KRL has big hopes for it, and wants to do big network tv deals with it.

P.S. But you're a great 'devil's advocate', John. Always 2 sides to something, but on this one, I'd have to say the name was sold, despite the attempts at 'spin'. If it was a gift, need not be written into any contract, could have just been transferred. If there's no value to it, an offer of $1 to KRL for the name, from me, should make him thrilled.

How about if you bought a new BMW for sticker price, and then the dealer threw in a new Mercedes too.

That's more analogous.

And the dealer took payments.

And, and, and..

I believe he plans on launching a Men's Magazine.

Maxim and several other publishers including Cargo are way ahead in that market. MEN.COM would be the perfect site to trump all of these in cyberspace. No distribution costs. Course it would seem that most of the people typing it in would be gay males (or women!) as I have no reason to type in that site. Nor do I really read any of the men's magazines sent to me. Probably would be best suited for male porn.....although I am not in the adult business. I'm surprised Rick would let the site go that easy....

As far as I know, it will be tangible and online with TV ads this winter (or planned for).

In regards to "letting it go", $1m+ is a fair price, although Rick claims 9x% of his domains are developed, I have yet to see anything of his really developed.

With all due respect, I have to strongly disagree with what you said. ;)

I'm not the kind of guy who loves sports and cars and etc. so much, but there are A LOT of such men out there. And I don't think it's biased towards gay in any connotation; porn, maybe.

By the way, men.com is not exactly what we would call type in; instead, it's a HIGHLY marketable brand, either by audio or visual media.

Men.com is cool for everyone (either men, women, gay, les, boys, girls), IMHO.

Yes, sex applications sell. But the good ol days of reaping huge profits from one site (legally, not fraudulent credit card charge tricks) are long gone.

Definitely, "Men.com" has a gay connotation, no matter how macho it could sounds for somebody. Metrosexual, at least.

The wife says that all men magazines are gay's magazine, except the erotica "men" well known magazines

:)

P.S. I'd throw a bet that that domain will host a gay site within no most than 3 years, if it is lucky enough. ;)

At the Webmasterworld conference this week, I met the co-founder (forgot his name - Monte is the other partner) of Moniker at their trade show booth. Men.com was listed as one of their big sales, so I asked him specifically about the men.com deal. He said there were absolutely NO other domain names or stock included in the sale, and it was financed over time. So, there ya have it... either the poster on the adult board isn't who he says he is, or Moniker's not playing straight.

Hello JuniperPark,

I am glad we did finally have a chance to meet and I know that Eric (my partner) would like to also follow up with you on some of the opportunities we discussed. Can you email him at [email protected] or me at [email protected] so we can follow up with you?

Also, just to clarify this purchase, dirtyjokes.com was included however, the price was for the domain men.com. Kevin Leto is the CEO of Men.com and we work with them now as the domain is also here at Moniker.
