thanks,

123-reg.co.uk and 1and1.co.uk Both good on registration price. 1and1 can be very very slow to register new domains so if the race is on don't use them!! 123-reg is excellent on transfers and their top geeks are very good.

Bad news is 123-reg can have 'bugs', but their interface is about the easiest to use which keeps me going back! Nothing can be as cluttered or as slow as godaddy!!!

I would stay away from 123-reg and 1and1 if I were you.

You can register a .uk domain through any registrar that is able to register them, you may get re-registration reminders from Nominet or even requests to check your details etc... HOWEVER, if you sell a .uk domain you can't just 'push' it to the new owner, you have to go through a 'transfer of ownership' process using Nominet.org.uk.

It involves paperwork, yes good/bad old fashioned paperwork, and £11.75 GBP. Which is UNAVOIDABLE, because to do so the new owner (and that maybe yourself) will NEVER completely own the domain name. The person who remains on the 'whois' can reclaim the domain at anytime!!!

Yer crap idea!! :sigh2:

what if you push it within godaddy, to another godaddy user. Or say if it was registered in moniker, to another moniker user.. would that involve paperwork too?

Avoid UKReg as they renew domain names even if you have asked them not to, 5 of my names were renewed at a price of £8 each even though I had put them on manual renewal. Subsequently I was fined £20 by my bank for going over my limit for that month!

Yes, yes, all change of ownership of .uk domains involves a PAPER chain and fee payable to Nominet.org.uk. THATS ALL CHANGES...

There is no way around this, to try and avoid this will result in you losing any domains you have purchased. Basically if you have purchased a .uk domain on the secondry market and the seller has not supplied you with the correct change of ownership paperwork and you have not paid Nominet their pieces of silver YOU DONT OWN IT!

This is a very big problem for sellers/buyers that are used to dealing with only TLDs.

Fees for mass transfers are £22.00 GBP + UK VAT for three or more .UK domains.

thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.

Looks like the domain issues get a bit more complicated outside the US.

Yes I think this is a very bad situation, and not one that is set for change it appears! The charges for transfers have come down considerably in recent years, until recently they used to be more than £30GBP, $60USD.

This whole system makes the UK secondry domain market a bit of a joke! :mullet: The UK has had a very good uptake in domain registrations and it continues to look good. But this is one thing that is slowing serious investment outside of the UK.

A stupid system that has high charges attached! Ok perhaps not stupid because the chance of domain theft is greatly reduced. But a PAPER trail, PAPER for an Internet based system!!! This is 2007, Nominet is being seen more and more as a joke! Reminds me of the old days of only Network Solutions!!

Sadly, many UK domainers seem quite happy with the situation. I guess if you are used to taking it up the *** you often choose to continue too...

Changing registrant costs money, but changing other things, such as address, email, dns, tag are free UNLESS you're dealing with a registrar who enjoys ripping people off :)
