Interesting article on Sitepoint about the UltSearch / Yun Yee PPC operation. Truly staggering numbers!

50,000 Domains
12.5 million uniques/day
375,000 sucessful searches per day
$225,000 in daily renevue = $82.1 million per year

Take a look:

http://www.webmasterbase.com/article/961

Even if wildly overinflated, stunning, stunning figures and all without resorting to porn!

Amazing! I guess PPC really does pay :)

Cheers! :)

That article circulated a month ago, and was laughed at. To see real PPC revenues, one only need check FindWhat's quarterly filings, e.g:

http://biz.yahoo.com/e/021106/fwht10qsb.html

In Q3 2002, all of their paid click throughs in total, for FindWhat (of which UltSearch is one of their partner) were 60.8 million, i.e. 675,000/day, with average revenues per click of 18 cents. A fraction of that 18 cents (typically 50% but sometimes more) is paid out to the search partner.

So, UltSearch has twice the revenue of all of FindWhat ($10.985 million in Q3 2002), according to this recycled article. *yawn* You'd think in a month they'd have checked their math....what a surprise, though, the author of the article is selling software/services to help you get expired names.

Sitepoint is by submission. Let's assume that the author of the prior article submitted it to SP as well.

Granted the figures: uniques/day, average commision, etc., are widely overated but, it still hints at the substantial gross take. Discount it by 90 % and you still have a very successful business model.

That and the 888.com affiliate link much yield some substantial revenue as well ...

If Yun was really earning $82m a year, he would be buying sex.com outright instead of scrounging in other people's trash heap

I think Yun actually owns MORE domains. But, yes I believe the other estimates are wild.

Here is my guess about what the real numbers may be:

100,000 domains
20 unique visitors per day per domain
which equals 2,000,000 visitors per day total
who might convert to searches at a rate of 5%
which means 100,000 searches per day
at 5 cents per click
equals $5,000 per day
equals $150,000 per month
equals about $2 million per year

That's quite far off from $82 million. But still, not too shabby.

This is all guessing on my part..

If you want to see real earnings, it would be nice to see the numbers from the many internet multi millionaires that do "resort to porn".

That reporter misled a lot of people and probably created more competition for everyone. He uses Overture bids for his figures. Overture doesn't feed any results to Yun Ye. Findwhat does and Findwhat bids are a lot lower. As others pointed out, it would be truly amazing to average 250 visitors daily to 50,000 domain names. Yun Ye has picked up names I dropped that were getting 0-5 visitors a month.

Well at 12.5 million unique visitors a day he will have about 4.5 BILLION visitors a year. Thats almost the whole world population.

In 2 years he will have more visitors that we have here on planet earth.

Overly inflated a bit?

are you asking, could you make 2-5 million dollars with that amount of traffic, or could you set up PPC links like Yun Ye does?
