Although I rarely disagree so widely with Pred, if $240k would mean in comparrison with sex.com the .info is only worth less than 1.85% of the .com (taking sex.com as $13 million)!

Of course it is also an opportunity for the lesser suffix to show the .com how to properly monetize a domain.

It won't sell.

you could well be right.i don't know who the owner is , so don't know his 'price'.
we all have one. if he doesn't need cash then, who knows?
his undoing may be that sedo will bigtime limit the reserve, even if it is 'sex'
It's an info & i'm a huge fan, bt there is a ceiling on them at the moment. Maybe the bar is being raised?
Maybe the buyer of travel.info fancies 'sex' as well ;)
I personally love 'sex' & 'travel'. They go very well imho  :-#:

You are probably right Bill tbh, made a few points on my reasoning on above post though. who knows, looks like the upper echelon prices for info are on the up, it's about bloody time for this awesome extension imho
Obviously this is one of the top names
Interesting stuff

Sedo will likely pull the auction and relist it 5x the going price.

only an end user should buy this at such a price IMO, more than 100k is too much for a reseller. In similar .coms I can see a reasoning behind the price, they have enormous traffic and there is a predictable ROI in PPC or with development, and the money paid is slowly yet steadily returning to the investor in the form of ad revenue. No need for further advertising or any kind of marketing. And while the domain pays for itself, it's value rises as well and when he sells he will have a few millions in profit + whatever he made in PPC.

In an extension like .info however, all there is is potential, there will never(at least not anytime soon) be super high traffic and the name will never pay for itself unless:
1. It is developed
2. It is resold later for greater profit

When we are talking about reseller price, we sometimes fail to realize that there is always staging in the reselling process, during which the price of a name rises. A reseller will buy it for reseller price the first time a name is sold. Then he might sell it to another reseller for more profit, at a reseller price again. Eventhough the new owner has bought it at a reseller price, he will have a harder time reselling it for profit to another reseller. He might pull it off, but the third time it will be impossible. So at the end, the last buyer will buy a name at a reseller price but he will not be able to flip it at a reseller, his only chance is an end user, or development.

If sex.info sells to a reseller for more than 100k he will have a serious problem profiting from it. If it sells, I truly believe that it can only be an end user. If a reseller buys it, well, he's got balls

Remember that sex.net sold last year for $450,000, that did not have a big base of visitors either, look at it now!

Even based on just the .net sale it should easily pass Pred's prediction of $240k. A lot is happening in the market though at the moment, a new appraisal of domain values, but that is digressing. The bid is already $101,000, that is in the first few hours of a 14 day auction! I personally think this will achieve bids of between $500,000 and $1,000,000 and that there is a chance that it will exceed the $1,000,000 mark. It currently has 30,000 uniques a month, if developed it could easily surpass sex.com as that is tied to I think it is PlayBoy (yawn). I am sure I am not the only one to realise the potential of this domain and and that it could easily become the pre-eminent sex site on the web.

Anyway, eyes down and let us see what the big boys do with this.

What seems to have happened is that bidders have put in their maximum bids and if this is under the reserve still the maximum bid is registered as the actual bid.
