A bunch of my .com names are coming up for renewal; I'd originally regged them in 2000. It'd be helpful to know what other members feel as to which names are worth the renewal fee:

OffPaper.com
AsiaRentals.com
TourSpecialist.com
SimpleFun.com
AllPrivate.com
EatPure.com
HiAustralia.com
OffDebt.com
TeenPride.com
TeenMagnet.com
ShePlays.com
HerHobby.com
CostMagic.com
AirProtection.com
RepairMagic.com
AfterName.com
RestAmerica.com
SweatAmerica.com
AzRepairs.com
AzTrees.com
FastAssembly.com
NeoMedium.com
DermaArt.com
BlondLink.com
BlondeLink.com

Would appreciate the input!

I would drop them all except possibly AirProtection. KidKool's advice makes sense. On the ones you decide to drop, try offering them in the forum at low prices to recover at least part of your original reg fees.

I think teenpride.com would be worth saving. Schools are preaching "teen pride" (yes, I have a daughter entering her teens soon and I get all these pamplets from her school teaching "teen pride". Lucky me). You could develop the domain along those lines or maybe get ahold of an education association like PTA or Schoolastic or something along those lines.

I'm truly thankful to all of you....and I mean it, however, one intersting observation I'd like to draw attention to is as follows:

All of the above opinions are from folks who're "insiders" so to speak, meaning very much "in" domain business....and here we're also talking of ".coms" and not the new tlds where there are relatively drastically differing opinions as to their prospects and hence value. If we review the above opinions, as to what names are worth renewing, we'd see that its practically ranging from drop all of them to renew most of them, taking into account each individual opinion. So, the $64K Question is: What does it reflect in terms of all the appraisals and valuations that we do here? Is it afterall either a "gut feeling" type exercise or "subjective" opinions at best? Obviosuly, we're talking here of names that are in the "grey area", i.e. not totally/clearly crap and not like cars.com/hotels.com...!! Its also my observation that vast majority of the names put up for appraisals are either "crap" or decent but mediocre; rarely, one'd see a name put up for appraisal that's genuinely premium and actually belongs to the person putting it up for valuation. An argument can thus be made that if this is the situation with .Coms then one can expect the same fate with names in new tlds in future....i.e. genuine keyword names commanding high valuations and decent but mediocre names having inconsistent valuations and hence unpredictable re-sale potential.

Just few subjective thoughts (based on objective observations)!!

Buying a name to sell is a gamble and a guess. Some names require a bit of imagination. Names can also be used for small niche markets, which is why I pm'ed you. They have no value without a site, but someone who is prepared to develop a name will pay a premium for the chance of this development.

The potential income is a big consideration in assessing the value of these domains.

I could see somebody making a good, popular site out of any of these names... or any other reasonably short and pronounceable name (asjkgdfjklsadfsdfasdf.com would be hard). I could also see somebody making a good popular site out of those names in .org or .info. It's much less the name itself than what you make of it. What value would anybody have given yahoo.com or google.com before those sites popularized the name?

Which begs the debate about the power of keywords and natural type-ins.

So what have you decided - are you going to sell some of them to us, let them drop, put them on Ebay, or ask again next year :D
