Enom is getting a refresh and the building blocks for a better domain control panel are being put in place.
Domain name registrar Enom will look different when you visit it later today.
The site is undergoing a refresh to make it easier for resellers to integrate, and in preparation for bigger changes coming soon.
Yesterday I spoke with Ray Winninger, Enom Director of Product, and Jason Silverstein, Rightside VP of Product & Engineering , about the changes.
Winninger and Silverstein make up part of a team Rightside hired from outside to take a fresh look at Enom.
The eNom home page will be refreshed with Enom’s first widgets, which are part of a plan to make it much easier to integrate with Enom as a reseller. Winninger noted that it currently takes some engineering work to integrate with Enom. The widgets will hopefully change that by allowing resellers to easily add functionality.
Enom is testing the widgets on its own sites first before offering them to the developer community. It is also enhancing developer documentation.
From the typical user’s perspective, the new domain spinning service will probably be the most noticeable addition to Enom today. Name.com has already been running the internally-built system.
The Enom functionality that’s most important to domainers–the domain control panel–is not being upgraded yet. But some of the underlying technology changes necessary to update the domain control panel are being put into place with this update.
If you have a wish list of changes you’d like to see in the domain manager, now would probably be a good time to get them heard. One of mine would be to be able to make bulk changes without using magic folders.
