O.K i have had a bid through sedo for a name low xx,xxx, great first offer for a spanish .com domain which is a generic in the construction industry but very niche.

Now i know this must be an enduser as the bidder has made one bid previously for a domain which was unfortunately for him had already been sold,Now mine is the same name but the plural version (exactly the same but with an "s" on the end).

Now i need advice on whether to just take the money or make a counter offer and risking losing the deal altogether although it's his first bid and has not indicated final offer ?

Any advice appreciated !

Thanks............

Take the money now and run.
Use Sedo Escrow to close the deal.

Depends, what would it sell for here on DNF? IF it's a very strong offer I’d be tempted to take it, 10k isn't a small amount of cash – especially in these times.

With that said it is his first offer and you are right, he's probably willing to pay more. It's still a risk though, is it one you are willing to take?

I think this is terrible advice, never accept the first offer.

Do you know how much they previously bid for the singular version?

Depends partly on how much you need the cash right now.

If you're willing to gamble a little, send a counter - maybe $15K (assuming their first offer was 10K; if it was more, adjust accordingly). They can do one of four things:

  • Accept your counter (yay!).
  • Send a new offer in between those figures - you can accept that and come out ahead.
  • Repeat the same offer they made before. You can accept it and won't have lost anything.
  • Reject your counter and cancel negotiations. Doesn't seem that likely since they've made substantial offers now for both the singular and plural versions, so they clearly want that term a lot ... but your risk tolerance is the key factor here.

That's what I'd probably do. It's not my domain (and my possible $10K), though!

Good luck - let us know what happens.

Forgot to mention, the strange thing is every other TLD is still available apart from my .com

Thanks for the advice i am pushing for a counter but then i am torn between that and killing the deal especially as the domain owes me so so little.

Before receiving this offer, what would you have sold it for?

There's nothing wrong with taking a first offer if the offer's good enough.

Sell if you're happy with the price.

Take the money and dont be greedy. You could lose the sale, and that really hurts! And never sell the name again. Or end up selling it for much less.

Forgot to mention, the strange thing is every other TLD is still available apart from my .com

Take the offer and register the good tld's

The only problem with jumping on a first offer is that sometimes an end user buyer will think he bid way too high and back out. Sometimes a marginal counter offer can solidify the value. But, if you think this person is really going follow through with the initial offer, probably best to take it.

Let us know how it turns out for you.
