GoDaddy just sent this:

+++++++++

Dear Valued Go Daddy Customer,

The time is right for .US domains.

If you've ever wanted a new .US domain, at only $5, the time is right.

If you ever wanted more .US domains, at only $5, the time is right.

If you ever wanted to renew your .US domain(s), at only $5, the time is right.

If you've ever wanted create pride in your workplace or home...

If you've ever wanted to fly the Stars and Stripes over your Web site...

If you've ever wanted to show your support for this great land of ours...

at only $5, the time is right.

The time is right for .US domains.

I'll never be able to offer a lower price. And you can be sure that you won't find a better deal anywhere.

So please: Be my guest and buy as many .US domains as you want. I'll reserve this unheard of $5 pricing until March 31 and then it's gone for good.

As always, thanks for being a Go Daddy customer. God bless America.

Sincerely,

Bob Parsons
President
Go Daddy Software

Godaddy has the MOST .US registrations..over 200,000..

Very smart move...their revenues will look very good NEXT year...AND they will show a huge margin increase (profits !)

It's the CellpHone marketing in the early days.. you basically got your phone for free ..in return they retain /gain a large market share AND the recurring revenues that go with that market share.. as long as Godaddy keeps their prices competative next year....they are setting them selves up very nicely...

And as far as I can tell, Go Daddy never let even the sh*tiest of names drop, so they have a nice little cashcow in their DomainNameStore.

I think that GoDaddy sent emails with special links to current customers and also called their largest customers and made the offer that way...I'm not sure that it is available to everyone.

Probably worth a call to one of their customer service people to ask.

Time,

If you click on the link in the email, at the top of the page, it will say that you are entitled to special pricing...the pricing shows up at the checkout.

If you go into your regular account, it won't give you the price.

I am pretty sure that was sent to everyone (including myself). I have 20 domains with GoDaddy, I am not a big customer of theirs.

Interesting. I have set up Eudora to not display email images, so I missed that one :D
