P.S.
the scary part is this:

"Some countries, he said, might withdraw support they had for ICANN on the premise it would one day take over the root servers.

In a worst-case scenario, countries refusing to accept U.S. control could establish their own separate domain name system and thus fracture the Internet into more than one network. That means two users typing the same domain name could reach entirely different Web sites, depending on where they are."

It all boils down to the oldest linear equation in human relations: politics

But the question is will our children have one Internet to go to, or just the Internet their government lets them go to?

:)

I wouldn't be surprised that in case of a war the US simply shut down Internet and forbid GPS use to the enemy nation if needed.

This is why I think that root servers outside the US are needed. And this is also why the EU is building Galileo, as a counterpart to GPS system.

Hahaha, nope. We've had Bush in office--twice. Bad choice IMHO, but we get what we can take.
