the below was authored by a brilliant Brand Marketer in another Domain Forum....

Use of MOBI by NBC Universal... good sign.

http://www.universalchannel.mobi/

I'd like to see more of this.

Press Release issued online...

Here's what I like...

1) Big corporation developing and communicating their MOBI assets.
2) NBC Universal does not own UniversalChannel.com.
- so this is a true MOBI play.
- No redirect. No defensive move.
3) Focus on Latin America.
- MOBI is a global extension.
- Birth of MOBI usage could occur anywhere in the world.
4) NBC Universal is in the content communication business.
- Outstanding application for MOBI.
- Could create consumer use.

Iggy, Iggy, Iggy.

How many knew about YouTube in early 2005? Very few
How many visitors were at MySpace.com in 2003? Only those in bands

I know you want instant gratification & attention. But real life is not a tv show or movie.

Big change or big ideas rarely happen instaneously.

Piggy, ebbs & flows occur.

- dotMobi is only 15 weeks old.
- Over 400,000 names already registered around the world
- 5,800 names will be allocated via RFP or auction.
- Three $xxx, xxx sales have already occured in 4 months.
- Major companies will likely build strong dot Mobi brands (MobileNews.mobi - Microsoft; MobileTvPhone.mobi - Samsung; Cheeseburger.mobi - Outback Steakhouse; NewYearsEve.mobi - Disney; FlowersToGo - 1-800 Flowers; MobileGear.mobi - Target , etc. etc.)

RFP is a terrific mechanism because domains like news.mobi will be allocated to an outfit like CNN. Weather.mobi issued to a brand such as Weather.com. Perhaps, Sports.mobi will be given to ESPN. Per the RFP contracts, all must develop fully functional, user friendly dot mobi sites.

Has any other extension (EU, .info, .net) utilized the RFP or auction mechanism? NO

Has Dot com had 15 years with billions in promotion? Yes.
ABC, NBC, & CBS had decades & billions in promotion too, but along came the birth of CNN & Fox....and now all co-exist successfully.

" WHAT MOBI ISN'T:
- MOBI is not a technological breakthrough.
- MOBI is not a solution to easily surfing the mobile web.
- MOBI is not the birth of the mobile web.

WHAT MOBI IS:
- MOBI is an outstanding global alternate to COM in the mobile space.
- MOBI has some level of awareness.
- MOBI will be utilized to develop cool websites for mobile surfers.
- MOBI is... the next ORG. Just as I predicted.

WHY IS IPHONE THE BIRTH OF MOBI?
Simple. Iphone will stimulate legitimate web development for the phone. As the development occurs, there will be little sparks of MOBI usage... both from people putting up personal sites with a memorable URL (www.eric.mobi - versus - www.ericjohntowskijr.com) as well as startups who are bootstrapped to pay for a great COM name.

IF you are watching for big relationship announcements from major companies regarding MOBI touting the technological benefits of MOBI, keep waiting.

IF you are waiting to hear about the birth of the mobile web, where MOBI will be a tremendous alternative to COM, then today is historic.

We have just witnessed something spectacular...

The birth of the mobile web.

The birth of MOBI."

Iggy, you like when others fail.

You are envious and mad at yourself for missing this opportunity to acquire intellectual property in the mobile space. Now you reside on the sidelines bitchin & moanin, lashing out, and desperately hoping for demise of dotMobi, others to fail so you can feel better about your missed investment/development opportunity.

Keep your fingers crossed, iggy!

The difference is that YouTube.com exploded because of use; not becasue people were talking about videos. DotMobi will never get the required usage because the speculators have all of the names. I don't trust the Sportsbook.mobi sale to be legit. If you could please tell me who bought it I would appreciate it.

Dotcom will always be king. I'm not jealous at all. I just wish I could search message boards without seeing fraudulent Sedo Auctions and Fraudulent Escrow.com transactions being talked about. If the fraud stopped I really wouldn't care.

Some people should be in jail for what they are doing.

That is a lie. Speculators do not have all the names. I can show you hundreds of non-trademarked dot mobis owned by Fortune 500 companies.

*Fact* 5,800 Premium dot mobis today, today!....are owned by the dot Mobi registry. So Business.mobi, Poker.mobi, Sex.mobi, News.mobi, Sports.mobi, Music.mobi and thousands more "Premium" dot Mobis will be issued via RFP or auction. Those who earn "Premium" dot mobis thru RFP are not issued to speculators.

I don't trust the Sportsbook.mobi sale to be legit.

Given your premise that you do not trust this sale. You should then conclude that all sales that are showcased in DNJournal be deemed bogus. It only takes two parties for a conspiracy to be executed.

DNJournal authenticated the sale. Trust DNJournal.com.

I agree that dotCom is king. I share your anger with respect to the Sedo auctions. However, this outrage encompasses more than dot mobi. I've seen countless fraudulent .com & .net Sedo auctions......these frauds are NOT unique to dot Mobi. I get pissed too when I see phantom buyers and Sedo is complicit.

DnJournal stated that the people at Escrow.com confirmed that money changed hands....that still doesn't mean the sale was legit.

You are arguing my case for me. There is eseentially ZERO usage in the dotmobi extention.

Simply put, if it weren't for domain name message boards you would have no idea that dotmobi is an extention. Pick up a phone book and dial a few random numbers. NO ONE will know what you are talking about.

FRAUDULENT Dn Journal listings are not the norm (I hope), but there have been at least a few. They have one thing in common....you scratch your head at the price, the Whois info is impossible to verify, and it is in a crappy extention. Make that three things.

You have no proof that those sales were fraudulent, you are completely talking out of your ass.

I am a developer who is developing sites for .mobi. There goes the whole basis of your theory right out the window.

Please let me know when you can tell me who the owner of Sportsbook.mobi is. That's a lot of money for a dumb-ass blank page and Private Whois.

I think that there are some scams going around. Of course. But it doesnt mean its always a 100% scam. Its a business and there are some out there screwing others around. But what i sense from you, Iggy, that you so much believe in conspiracies, especially with .mobi. So these scams also happen with .com and probably more with .com than with .mobi. That doesnt mean you have to bash investors. We bought the .mobi. We have them. Most of us if not all of us on this board are keeping these names. Some of us exchange .mobis cause we regged them during the rush and ended up with some crap names or some names we thought would be worth a little more than reg fee.
So be nice and be more productive with us.

The problem is that many people use these big sales as a reference point. Now you tell me what type of person buys Sportsbook.mobi for 133K or so and then makes their Whois Private, while at the same time telling the competition that they will be launching a .mobi site in 2007, while also making it impossible for anyone to contact them in any way?

What if someone wanted to offer them 500K for the name? What if Sportsbook.com wanted to partner with them?

I am 99 percent sure in my mind that someone involved in this sale is trying to pump up the extention.

Let's not even get into Flowers.mobi. There might be some method to the madness there, but it is the headscratcher of a lifetime. The possibilities are endless, but I hardly think the buyer entered the transaction thinking that it was the best place for 200K.

I am more sure about Sportsbook.mobi being a joke than Flowers.mobi. I think the people from Flowers.com (or 1800 flowers) were in attendance and for whatever reason it played out a certain way.

I am still waiting for a substantial "pure" dotmobi buy from someone who doesn't have a potential conflict of interest with the purchase, and who actually puts up a functional site with a little investment behind it.

It ain't happening too often. Thud. Thud.
