I've been curious as to how the various CCTLDs decide what domains to offer? For example, you can get a xxx.com.cn or a xxx.cn domain if you wish, but if you look at the UK, you can only get .com.uk

What exactly is the though process in not allowing xxx.uk registrations?

The main one for the UK is .co.uk. Followed by .org.uk, .uk.com and .net.com.

Oops my mis-spelling.

.uk.com and .net.com are both private.

My question is why are there are no .uk domains directly sold? It cannot be a technical issue as we can see with .cn that both variations can be supported.

You can get a .uk you just have to be VERY special.

eg.

bl.uk = British library
parliament.uk
police.uk

Interesting domaindruid - I did not know about that.

Im just failing to understand why they are keeping .uk domains out of the picture when there does not seem to be an underlying reason.
