Microsoft went after the domain name windowscasino.com with heavy artillery. I have received notification today that WIPO decided the case in favor of my client - handing Microsoft a defeat. The decision will be posted soon by WIPO and on my website. If anyone wants an advance copy, let me know.

Nice win, Steve. "Windows" might be famous in the computing field, but they certainly do not own the word in every field, an in particular gambling/entertainment. Microsoft even had to trade Bob.com for Windows2000.com several years back (owners of Windows2000.com had a registered TM in the field of cams or something).

The restaurant at the top of the World Trade Center was called "Windows on the World" and there are likely countless of other examples out there, which you brought up. :)

Did you get a reverse hijacking verdict too?

Steve, congrats....Glad to see the regular guy can come out on top against this bully.

I hope the Lindows.com vs. MS turns out as well. MS needs a really good spanking! :)

But, does the little guy really win? Steve has to be paid for his talent, time and fees. And, I would bet that Microsoft will not have to pay the defenders legal fees. Not counting the lost time and effort.

But, congratulations to Steve and his client for hanging in there and winning the case.

In a small way, this case benefits us. Showing that the big boys don't own a carte Blanche on the use of a word.

Well...I guess you can look at it that way. It was obivously worth it to the domain holder to pursue it...and thats all that matters.

MS still has to pay court costs...they have to pay their lawyers...they do get a salary.

MS has pulled too much sh•t over the years in court, and in general. Any victory no matter big or small is a good thing. Hopefully Lindows will win in their suit and that will be a big thing.....

anyhow... :)

Although I understand the point of the celebration, why all the scorn and hatred against Microsoft? It's a large employer, a technology and engineering innovator, a humanitarian company that once attacked by the federal government it marked the day of the beginning of the latest Bear market (March 2000).

Attacked? Heh, since when is a long-overdue enforcement of the law an attack?

it marked the day of the beginning of the latest Bear market (March 2000).

Oh sure, of all the various possible reasons the market is way down (the most obvious one being a normal crash that happens after idiot investers wildly inflate stocks way beyond their rational value) you focus on THAT?

Oh well. Takes all kinds.

Congrats on the win, Steve.
