Who's behind these people? They sell domain names listed on Snap Names before they even own them for $199. I had the same name back ordered and "purchased" it through Web name forgetting I had it backordered or I thought he was the owner that had renewed it. What an idiot. Now he's bidding against me at Snap names...

I wonder if Snapnames knows they're providing service to a well documented scam artist?

f so, then a

since there is no "regulations" on sellng names you don't own outside of forums and other venues, then they've been exploiting that avenue thru email campaigns for some time.

if i'm reading your post correctly, did you purchase the name thru them (webname), and have it backordered as well?

It is a name I have been following for over a month and I know when it is going to drop and I know it can only be on namejet....as it is a netsol drop.

This guy does research on the names and then seeks out end users....contacts them and trys to collect $199...then tries to get the name. This M-fer has most likely sent out this e-mail to a few hundred endusers for the name. So now I will have much more competition than just domainers as some of the end users are not fools and could do a check and see the name is about to drop - and go to namejet themselves....not to mention the name is dropping from an enduser (who this tool may contact and get them to renew it).

Another question is if the auction goes over the $199 threshhold...what does he do? does he try to get more money out from the purchaser?

Does anyone who paid this guy the $199 know ? I wonder if he collect $199 from multiple people?

Should he be reported to name jet? I am worried if I did that - as I do not want namejet to know I have my eye on this domain and have them bid against me as well.

This guy has to be stopped.

Why ? Besides spamming he does nothing illegal. I blocked his emails long time ago and I do not care if he can get some idiot or not...

Well, I'm not all that interested in bidding against end users who he has now alerted that the name is dropping and want the name - that is exactly the case with this name I am watching.

I understand that from your point of view but he does nothing illegal or even unethical (besides spam of course).

They have on many occasions claimed to own domains that I already own, and offered to sell them to me through their spam.

That's FRAUD, plain and simple.

I've also read on other forums that they accept payment and don't deliver the domain.

Maybe...but not too sure if it is legal to sell something you do not own to multiple suckers...and then try to get them to pay more depending on the bidding outcome.

I just got offered the ".com version of the .net" that I already own for $199. Funny thing is that I currently own both the .net and .com and neither are expired or expiring....

Scammers!..... I'm gonna go get my rope!
