Hi Guys,
interested to know what the new afternic/buydomains etc sales platform is like?
i have never bothered with them tbh, 20% is a massive commission
However they dominate a lot of the space for marketing domains
How many sales do you guys get through them?
would you strongly advise listing my domains with them?
any tips a, advise with listing with afternic? & would you go for the 10% listing section? or the 20%
welcome all advise guys
cheers

20% is a ripoff, they just take your money without doing anything! I'd pay 20% if my domain was listed as for sale on all major domain registrar domain searches but an extra 10% just to be listed on buydomains isn't worth while imo. I don't personally use afternic anymore because i dont fancy the interface which makes it even harder to reason why we should pay a $20 yearly fee, any responsible company would need a reasonable site, afternic looks more like a site run by a teen in his basement.

Just my 2 cents but I think any potential end user buyer would find it very hard to navigate and finally bid on an afternic domain name!

thanks for input dude.
think i tend to agree in a lot of ways which must be why i have never bothered.
i just didn't want to think i was missing out on lots of sales
adding all the names would be a pain too, lol
interested to hear if many people get lots of sales with them?

If you want to maximize your domain sale chances:
- Maximize your domain exposure.
- Sell as low you can under the appraised value.

So "be seen" it's the first step and "set an appropriate pricing" is the second one.

Let's talk about the "be seen".

There is 2 way to be seen, be seen after a keyword search and be seen as a suggestion.
The first option generally lead to higher sale conversion rates.
I recommend the suggestion only for domains of outstanding quality or bargain.

So get listed in BuyDomain/Afternic is a PLUS.
Even if you are listed at SEDO, PremiumDomains, TDNAM, Mocus...

CSite, I do not want to be a pain but what you say above is not logical:
Because you are paying on performance then you will earn the same if your name is sold after having been listed in 1 or 100 places as you will waste the same if it is not sold.
Be listed in more places just improves your sale chances not your sale amount.

In fact asking 20% and not 10% offer to NameMedia an arm to strongly/quickly improve the exposure of your name in more places (as you want) and I explain why:

To atract visitors to a marketplace the owner needs to advertise it.
This can be done through custom advertising purchases and /or an affiliate program.
The best option for the affiliate program is a CPA deal (what is done by most markeplaces).
But if you want to come with an appealing deal for the publisher you cannot offer a low sale commission.
This is why NameMedia is asking 20%, to better pay their affiliates and this way interest more sites on advertise YOUR DOMAINS!!!

I like Afternic, and now with BuyDomains it's a good place to get more exposure for your names. Just bump up your prices to cover commissions. Check their site for domains sold, and DNJournal weekly sales, to see what kind of sales they get - it got better after they were bought by Name Media. Their domain sales pages have a toll free number that someone can call if they are interested in a domain - a very nice feature. Personally I think it's worth it if you are serious about selling domains. Their affiliate and parking programs also are ways to earn extra income.
