Hi, All:

Would love to get some feedback from those who participated in domain auctions that cover a particular theme or category.

For example, take a look at this
http://bit.ly/b30n7A

Does this type of "theme" auctions help draw many more bidders?

If you're a buyer or a seller, what would be your feelings about participating in such auctions? Reasons?

Buyers get more competition, but so do sellers, it seems. It is hard to tell on balance what the end effect will be. For buyers, it is a convenience, I think, as you get to choose among many domains offered for sale. Do sellers get a better price for participating than the normal (no-theme) for-sale listing and the normal auctions?

I am thinking of listing one or two travel-related domains for this coming Sedo auction, but just like to get some feedback from experienced domainers. I think the final price will be fairer for both buyer and seller, given a larger group of participants on both sides. Make sense? Opposing views welcome. Of course the end result is the proof, but I've never participated in a "theme" auction before, so I like to hear from those who have.

Thanks.

Definitely not.

Just go and click on it, and you'll see what I mean.

I just have some domain names parked at sedo, that's all, and I got a notice of their "travel" theme auction.

The link just takes you to info on that auction, and I shortened it that's all. You can easily check.

I posted it because I truly wanted to know the situation and would appreciate feedback from experienced people, i.e. those who participated in theme auctions before, at sedo or elsewhere, e.g. geodomain auctions.

I don't see how themed auctions could possibly be a success since much bigger non-themed ones are a dismal flop lately such as the Mardi Gras event with not much more than 25k in sales from what I understand even with long running heavy promotion.

The market is far too weak and fragmented with so many venues at this time for a niche event to be successful due to a serious lack of niche participants, imo.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

I don't know about the partner part of the url. I noticed it myself when I
clicked at sedo. But I do know I am no partner and I don't get paid anything.
There is no ID number there.

The event is 7 days and as far as I am aware, there is no bonus or incentive.

As a matter of act, I could not even add a travel domain to the auction when
I tried to do so.

But given the flop of themed domain auction, it probably doesn't matter.
