Anything before the "commercial Internet" era (before 1995) is definitely valuable.
The exact value would depend on the TLD, the age and the actual name.

I am not trying to give the domain qay it like a 6 letter domain but it seems like the domain was probably a start up companyy that probably went out of business

Does it get traffic? Is it an actual word/term or just made up? Really without knowing the name, who knows.

Well my algorithm is: 1991 = $91 1992 = $92 1993,... etc and then 2000's start at $100 and so on and so forth :)

hehe

There was a 1992 regged 5L .com domain closed at $750 on SEDO in January. It's a decent domain for sure.

Just FYI.

that is a pretty unique opportunity and it's likely that it's worth a lot but you have to remember that the age is not the only factor. other factors like the actual name and traffic and brandability and etc etc are also things that can greatly affect the value.

Well a decent domain whiterock(.)com is bid at 2600. It was regged in '95. The company that used it was acquired and I guess the latest group didn't get the value it holds in today's market.

A well established name for use in the financial arena is the direction I believe the winning bid will go. Also can cover many other topics. Over 50 bids so far, I expect it to go well above 10K. This is a pre-release no proxy auction.

The only reason I came across this was due to a friend's need for a domain for his new venture (I knew the odds of this domain being available were nill), to my surprise the domain popped up with an overwhelming amount of interest. There's no way he's willing to part with the amount I think it will take. So, old regs have value.

Its not the age that determines value....its the name itself and the amount of income it produces...or protentially will produce.

Have to disagree with you there. Many developers and SEOs buy only aged domains.

Developers, webmasters and SEOs are the intellectuals of the web

I was referring to end users. But I have to disagree with 100%. Unless you sell allot of domains? I have sold allot of domains with no age to developers. SEO experts often claim they can get the domain ranked regardless of age.

Of course any domain, aged or newly registered, can get indexed. I believe the consensus with SEO gurus is that the older the domain the bigger the trust factor with Google & co, resulting in better rankings and faster indexing. There is also the notion of avoiding the Google sandbox with a previously undeveloped aged domain.

I agree that age is no concern for end users but it holds more significance than a sales point for domainers.
