What do you guys see in the .me extension?
See anything for generics such as poker.me, sex.me, business.me?

Even for generics? I see some decent sales for .asia, .fm, .sc

I would say some "hacked" domains might be fun to own, other than that it's just another country TLD.

has the landrush started already?

Just checked on Godaddy, guess it has.

Looks like the sunrise and landrush periods are really geared to create auctions at the end and drive up prices. Plus the reg fees are on the high side, doesn't take too many regs to be heavily invested at this point.

I'll wait til it's all over and may see whats left at general registration, can't imagine getting in a bidding war for a .me

But .nu seems to do well because it's a Swedish word, .me could have some potential. Strong generic words seem to be in demand in almost any extension really.

I think .me will be fun for hacked domains, and there sure will be lots of those.

.me would be good for words that end in the letters 'me' like ti.me and rhy.me
.me would also be food for cities in maine, like cityname.me

so when you search for name on godaddy and you see this:

ERROR: ****.ME is unavailable and has been removed.

What does that mean?

It will be another reason for newbies to throw $1,000s into the extension hoping to get rich..when they could've taken that money and bought a decent .net or .org. It won't go anywhere.

Agreed, but there are so many awesome hacks you can make out of .me some would be worth owning just for the fun of it...

Also, some could be useful for development, if you got the right one and made a good site it would certainly be a memorable domain...

But most of the "Fun" ones are not available, are these reserved for auction or something?

All I see from that is the extension pricing itself right out of the market. Maybe I'm wrong and there are lots of people who have lots of money and see this extension blowing up, but I don't think anybody with their feet on the ground will.

They're charging $150 or $50 per year right now to register on godaddy. I see some very nice short one word .nets and .orgs going for $100-200 fairly regularly. Both of those extensions have been around since the beginning.

As rockefeller said, who wants to invest big in a totally unproven commodity when there are better options? I guess there's always a few people thinking 1996 is going to make a comeback.
