Hi, I'm new to domain industry. Just started building my first sites. I used iweb b/c it's super simple. My friend suggested I learn a content management system like joomla really well. What do you use? What would you recommend for beginners?

Thanks.

Thanks for all the tips. What I like about content mgt. systems like joomla is it's really easy to add new articles, links, etc. and archive the old ones. i.e. content is easy to manage once the site is up. But building the site the way I'd like seems to be much more of a hassle. Comments?

I use Joomla and sometimes wordpress.

Just did two sites using Joomla.
ComputerHardware dot net - redesigned from html coded site.
VisitAU dot com - started yesterday. It only has three pages for now.

Nothing fancy. Just simple content sites ;)

I'd say to start with, go for wordpress or joomla (my personal preference is wordpress - much more versatile), then start learning about coding, read a few books, and get a program like dreamweaver to develop those new found skills

@MAllie:

You can put Adsense, this is how: http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=42281

@OP:

If you want to build simple sites ("build, publish & forget" type), learn Nvu/Dreamweaver + learn HTML & CSS. Keep some templates handy.

If you want to build a site where you have to update content on a regular basis, learn WP/Joomla/Drupal -> at least one. It will help a lot.

Wordpress can be used as a simple cms for a very basic website. There's tons of tutorials on it out there and you don't need much (if any) programming experience to get it up and running. Once you've outgrown it you can move up to something like Joomla.
