Troy and the whole gang from dotMOBI is here in Delhi for the ICANN Event. I caught up with Troy and Amy. I plan to catch up with them in two days for a long discussion about .mobi.

Let me know if you have any questions which I should ask dotMOBI Gang.

PS - They are super-cool people to be around with!

How is the money made via auctions being re-invested back into promoting mobi.

Ask them why Google, as one of the investors, is using mobile.google.com
instead google.mobi wich is only used for a redirect?

Ask them how much they've made so far and how much they intend to 'screw' out of people .. do they have a target? What are their plans for this extension? When they have earned enough will they be happy? ... Or will they pump some of that 'hard earned cash' into .asia so they can do it all over again?

Also .. ask them about the trust issue .. how can they run this with whats happened so far and how are they going about 'damage control'
Ask them who made the call to f*uck with the auction? (If they give the Sedo response then don't bother asking the rest of my questions)
Ask them was it a Sedo or .mobi call?
Not high enough bids on the initial auction or what? Needed a few extra bucks for the new Ferrari?
How are they going to regain their customers trust?

Ok .. so they're nice people but what is underneath is what counts

BTW ... dotMOBI Gang . you got that right

So, let me get this straight.

People want to know why they are screwing people out of their money and how they are reinvesting it.

Get a clue...they are co-sponsors of this ICANN conference in New Delhi, they were co-sponsors of the WEBBY awards, and are co-sponsors of so many events globally. All take money.

Lord Brar,

Ask them why is it okay for domainers to think domainers they have a right to profit from re-selling a domain to make more money that they paid for it yet mTLD does not have the right to auction off premium domains.

Ask them why web.asia is being auctioned off in the upcoming TRAFFIC auction long before common peeps can buy it but no one is saying anything about that.

Ask them why is it okay for GoDaddy to be their own drop catcher and then resell domains that would expire for thousands of dollars.

Ask them why don't they take some of that money and prosecute those that are spinning and printing rumours about them on forums and blogs about ripping people off and staging fake auctions and outages.

So you're saying my questions are not valid?

BTW .. if you would like to communicate with someone ... 'get a clue' is not a great way to start

accusations unfounded and unsubstantiated are not valid.

We can beat this .mobi thing to death. But it is not going away.

I am simply amazed at the damn conspiracy theories.

So, yes, get a clue and get some facts.

Fair enough .. you have your opinion (and information) .. I have mine (and my information) .. and I will not argue with you about this .. our professional relationship will obviously never progress beyond this thread so no worries ..

my questions still stand though ..

End of story

Professional relationships typically require being professional.

Doubtful you would have the balls to approach some one your self and ask those questions to begin with in a face to face conversation.

My opinion? My information?

What, it is purely opinion that domainers sell for a profit?
TDNAM is GoDADDY's drop catcher?
web.asia being auctioned off at TRAFFIC is not a good way to kick off this extension?
It is okay to print, blog, and print articles that are not supported by any fact regarding anything?

Conspiracy theories reign in all facets of life.

I deal with facts in my profession and in life. If you want to dream and go through life being paranoid and develop conspiracy theories then that is fine. There are plenty of threads on this very forum dealing with this.

I ask much more difficult questions than those every day .. If you want to get personal PM me and we can continue ... Ok?

Professional enough for you?

Why get personal?

If you have the nerve to post a question like that in a public forum then expect a public response.

Otherwise, perhaps you should have PM'd Lord Brar your concerns.

Perhaps Lord Brar will ask those questions but in a different and more professional manner, something to the effect of:

There are several domainers that think the last mTLD/Sedo auction was rigged, staged, and planned this to happen to attract more bids. To those that believe this, how would you respond to these allegations?

I hardly think Lord Brar would take an opportunity like this to inflame those he has developed a "professional" relationship with but this could all be a conspiracy in the making.

Seeing that it is an ICANN sponsored event, perhaps ask ICANN questions like:

Why did ICANN award VeriSign sole management of the .com and .net domains without accepting bids?

Why did VeriSign immediately announce a 7% increase in fees relating to the registering of .com and .net?

Where are the fees spent and how is it being used that we pay for each and every domain registered and renewal?

Why is ICANN moving its world headquarters to Switzerland?

Is it true that this move is in response to and to escape litigation and class action lawsuits filed US District Courts against ICANN for allowing Registry Fly to remain in business despite mounting evidence of impropriety, abuse, and violation of ICANN registry rules?

As for conspiracy, I do believe Elvis is dead but still undecided about JFK.

Sorry, Mulligan, but it sounds like YOU are getting personal with regards to mTLD employees:
"Needed a few extra bucks for the new Ferrari?" Who is this aimed at?

And what right do you have to make such allegations? "Ask them who made the call to f*uck with the auction?"

"Or will they pump some of that 'hard earned cash' into .asia so they can do it all over again?" What makes you think .mobi has got anything to do with .asia?

I see so much unwarranted disrespect towards mTLD it makes me sick! Sounds like there is a lot of hate within the domain industry.:disappointed:

You do know what sarcasm is .. right?

And what right do you have to make such allegations? "Ask them who made the call to f*uck with the auction?"
I have the right to ask searching question regarding the so called 'auction' debacle

"Or will they pump some of that 'hard earned cash' into .asia so they can do it all over again?" What makes you think .mobi has got anything to do with .asia?
Nothing .. but if I made enough cash off the back of .mobi then I would just do it all over again with another '.extension'

I see so much unwarranted disrespect towards mTLD it makes me sick! Sounds like there is a lot of hate within the domain industry.:disappointed:
Don't be sick .. sick is a horrible place to be .. it's not hate .. just a question or two .. answers to which I am uncertain will come

I'd like this question answered as well, if you have a chance to ask it. Thanks.

The where's Google (et al) question has been asked several times - the answer is always "we're working on it, can't really discuss it".

Same with the .Mobi default or .Mobi button on mobile devices.

These are issues well beyond mTLD's ability to effect directly, but were part of the original promotion of the extension - and are cause for some of the accusations of "hype". It would be wonderful if mTLD could deliver on these early promises.

The biggest question in my mind is the direction(s) they see the mobile web developing - what kind of websites can small budget domain owners create that would find users and traffic. How will people use the mobile web? How will it differ from the PC web? Try to get beyond the obvious answers they give to corporate types. They are speaking to .Mobi domain owners here.

In another forum a poster named Sags has presented a theory that the ability of the available spectrum to carry data is limited, both by cost and capacity, meaning that full internet browsing with graphics and video on mobile devices for the general population is many years away. This was presented as a justification for .Mobi. Does mTLD see such limitations and will those limitations continue for, say, a decade?

The converse, perhaps: Does mTLD forsee a time that they would adjust, loosen or remove the requirements on .Mobi websites due to improved technology?
