What happens when you are the new owner of a previously stolen domain name?

You should attempt to locate its former owner and return it, assisting the investigation to locate the thief. Some known serial thieves have been reported to the FBI or local authorities.

Do you risk losing your investment? Of course. But is it worth losing your integrity and public "face"?

i posted a long time ago to one from the forums that i was sure low.com was stolen..
it came up for sale in forums..
oversee.net is now the owner

the company of the year owns a stolen domain.....

the domain linked to nothing so i searched and found that mr NickLow died , he had a freemail as admins mail that didn t exist..and 1 year before the domain expire i saw a change to the ownership and a thread in these forums to sell it cheap...Now...WHO GOT IT? THE INTERNET COMPANY OF THE YEAR !!!

Buying stolen items is illegal if you bought it you are cooperating with thief you lose it and face the charges , if you bought it unknowingly then you lose it.
The previous owner should prove everything.

I don't have an experience but in real life this is it and it should be the same.

I would think there would be a Statute of Limitations on something like this, good question for a domain attorney. How far back are we talking bdjuf?
