Most of you know all about my animal .info domains:

http://www.baldeagles.info
http://www.toucans.info

etc, I have 5 sites like that at the moment...

anyways, I wanted to try and make a portal site combining all of them, so I emailed the owner of: animals.info

I know this is a premium domain, but he told me the firm price is $150,000 - rediculous, does he think this is 1999?

I also emailed the owner of species.info, which I thought might be more reasonable for me to obtain, that domain has a $2500 asking price...

have people lost their minds???

the idea is a get a name similar to the sites I have....

something like:

creatures.info
critters.info

I did tell the guy who owns species.info (which I figure is worth $200 tops) that he was a joke, he responded by saying: "I did not knock at your door to listen to my joke!" huh....

Well ... the truth is: when people don't NEED to sell a domain, they usually just ask for an exceptionally high price. The owner of animal.info is entitled to even asking for $1M, doesn't matter, it simply indicates that he doesn't want to sell it for less.

Talking about pricing in general, the owner of ANY domain holds a major stake in deciding the final sale price because he controls (at least mostly) the supply. Every domain is unique, and its substitutability is finite, depending on the name itself.

Well they can decide whatever final sales price they want eg http://www.seriousdomains.com , but get it wrong and you could well end up burdening your next of kin/next in your generation line, with the renewal fees.

it is not ridiculous for a price of 150k for animals.info

it's the perogative of the owner to set his own price.

would you sell "toucans.info" for $150.00 to someone who sent you an email, seeking a price quote?

the problem is that the market hasnt determined the price - the highest .info sale in memory is 1/5 of what the asking price for this name is...

I understand he can set his own price and everything, I just can't believe anyone is asking for that much money for a .info name...

BTW - seriousdomains.com has to be the funniest website I have seen in a long time, I needed that laugh

euAdvertising.com Like it or not, US customers, and many abroad, think of big companies in terms of a dot com address. So when US shoppers think about advertising in europe, their natural inclination is to think EU Advertising. "Where do I go to do advertising in Europe? Who are the big players? How do I find them? Who owns euAdvertising.com? They've GOT to be serious." The company that is most serious about dominating US advertising dollars spent in Europe should do well to consider owning this name. Price: $ 500,000.00

StealthMarketing.com Convey to your future customers how intense you plan to be to help your customers master marketing in their own competitive environment. Buy the market position that says, "We'll help you market in your sector with all the powerful tools, the most powerful technologies, and a mastermind of strategy. We'll sneak up on the top position in your sector, and they'll never know what hit them." Terrific built-in mindshare. Great leverage. Special Pre-Launch Pricing: $150,000.00

GT,

I would think it would be great for Ultimate to get $ 150,000. for
StealthMarketing.com

And, I am sure BD would gladly sell the .net cheap?

Some amateur owns the .org and .info called AMC.
He is a crackpot so I don't know if he would sell it.
I do know that he was an overpaid "Global Marketing Consultant"
(strategist) for many years. But, he is still a crackpot.

The .us and .biz are still available.

i suggest, probably you try other name that are not so generic eg. animalportal.info, animalsite.info, etc.

to you certain domains might worth few hundreds or even worthless to reg but to some others it could be thousands..

While I do believe that domain owners are entitled to ask for whatever they wish and it is up to the interested to judge the value and proceed accordingly.

Allow me to elaborate a bit more on price, demand and supply here.

Like any other commodity, the price of a domain name is determined by demand AND supply. While having a buyer who is willing to pay the price is VERY important, please do NOT downplay the role of the seller who almost SINGLEHANDEDLY controls the supply side of the formula. Like I said earlier in this thread, there are of course competition from other domain name owners who are trying to sell their domains of similar capacity or appeals; but then no 2 domain names are totally identical. Therefore the so-called "market" of a certain domain name is basically made up of a plural number of buyers (who are willing to pay the same or different prices) PLUS a single seller. Of course, the manipulative power of that buyer will eventually rest on the uniqueness or substitutability of his domain.
