What is the best forum software?

I have an old site running old Vbulletin software and thinking to either upgrade to the latest VBulletin or replace with another software.
I have turned off the site for a while as it gets a lot of traffic along with spam and bots.

The two big DN Forums are using Zenforo now and I want to know why?

What is your experience and suggestion?

It's Xenforo, not Zenforo.

From what I understand, people didn't like the changes made by vBulletin when they went to a new version. Some old vBulletin people are behind Xenforo and I guess they took the complaints to heart.

I've never used either, but I just bought a Xenforo license a couple days ago. The forum is up, but no users at the moment. Working on getting familiar with the software.
