Hello

I was interested in a domain which is linked to a dead page or page 404 for the last 6 months.

The domain has value to me. A quick appraisal and domain score analysis give me the following.

"52"
Domain score:
1 (worst) ... 1,000 (best) - exponential scale.

So, the domain is not very good...but I still want it.

I ve tried to contact the owner via the who is, and no reply.

I therefore decided to contact Sedo Broker service hoping them to get a better result.

On 28/02/2008
I ve been charge something like $69 very quickly.

On 07/03/2008, I got my first email to confirm that they had started working on the acquisition.

The domain is made of 2 keywords. They decided to do the valuation on 3 totally different keywords and compare them with porn/adult/betting/gambling , french (the domain is in spanish) and IDN domains.

Saying that the domain should be valued at least $USD 5000.

Anyway, I ask them to start negociation.

And today I receive the following:

"Unfortunately, the owner of the domain has either chosen not to respond to my attempts to contact him and is hence not interested in a sale or the details listed in the domain owner records are incorrect. Therefore, we have no choice but to abort our efforts to acquire this domain. "

So, what the point of using Sedo Broker service ?????

I can do this on my own...I send an email to the who is, no respond...oh ok...

or

the guy respond asking for more...I tell him...no problem I valued your domain 20 times what it is worth...do you want to sell it, he says yes...

Oh...I ve just became a broker !:) Anyone want me to get you any domains on your behalf. Just pay me $50.
I cannot guarantee that I will get your domain though.

Oh, and keep in mind that I am charging the guy who is selling the domain as well, as he decided to list his domains with us.

They should charge the fee only if a sale is consummated, on top of the 10% escrow fee.

There is still work involved to contact (or try and contact) the owner of the domain and that's the service they are providing. Work or fail, they provided a service.

I brought in my laptop because it didn't work. I figured it was the battery but I wasn't sure. They checked it out, it was the battery! They charged me $49 and my laptop wasn't fixed either. So it is an empty feeling, but not much you can do.

Did you call the phone number on the whois?

I only use Sedo's broker service if a seller or a buyer placed or received an offer via Sedo's anonymous offer system. Otherwise, there is no real use for the service. I can pick up the phone or shoot an email myself.

Sedo should refund, there is no point of paying, you can use same brokerage services free of charge

i did this too -domain wasnt resolving, mailed whois contact couple of times, no respond, ordered broker tru domain tools (whois.sc) service for free,

don't think they are able to get hold of seller either

I think actually it designed for newbies , who do not know what is whois and in some rare cases like Acroplex mentioned .

Actually 69$ is a ridiculous price if they are not able to acquire the domain name or at least to start negotiation.

mkellerman:

Thx for that.

Long time not used archive.org

I have not found my things.

As the domain i am interested has never been developed, and linked to...nothing...it is not in archive.org
So very frustrating...

I had quite some fun though looking at yahoo in 1996 & google in 1998 :)

---

Otherwise I agree with the other. I am really not bothered about the $69.
The service is probably for newby indeed. And it seems that the conclusion we can draw is that the service is 95% useless apart from cases like the one mentioned by Acroplex.

So yes I have learnt...and time to move on.

I am glad though to have shared this experience with you.

You now all know that Sedo Broker service is useless.

Thx all for your replies.
