I own locatecellphone.com ... and have had it listed on sedo for the last six months or so. During the last few months, locatecellphone.com has gotten like 100 uniques a month with maybe 20 or so clicks to generate $2/month. When I first bought it, it generated nothing (I bought it because I'm developing a locating service).

Anyway, these last three days, things have gone haywire. In the last 3 days I have 700 uniques with about 200 clicks so that I've made $20 in the last three days on Sedo.

I've tried to figure out what's going on ... but am clueless.

LocateCell.com was featured on CNN's the situation room a few days ago. I saw the clip, if you dig on CNN it should be archived there.

Apparently for about $100 you can get the last 100 calls made to/from any cellphone number regardless of whether its your phone or not.

Obvious legal and privacy concerns were raised.

Taking the above into consideration, if I were you, I'd make hay while the sun is shining, if you know what I mean.

Very cool. Thanks for the information. I actually just got a call from a Wall St. Journal reporter thinking that I ran the site! I told her that I own numerous locating names (about 100) was not associated with locatecell.com and had purchased at least some of the names in 2002 when I filed for my first patent application on location-based services.

How much do you think I could get for it? To be honest, I had always wanted to, and still want to, use it as a base for my location-based service software.

You struck gold. You can strike while the iron is hot and sell, or hold out and see what happens. I would be looking to sell to the owner of locatecell.com....there are about 10,000 other potential buyers as well......you put yourself in a position to get lucky....and you did.

these types of services will be banned, so you better sell now.

govenor of Illinois is already drafting legislation against such services.

Yeah, I also think you should sell your domains now. Maybe you can sell them as a package to the owners of LocateCell.com. Obviously your domains are worth a lot at the moment.

Yeah, but my type of services are completely legit (it basically allows one person to locate another person IF the other person gives them permission too). I wonder why LocateCell was even chosen. LocateCell just provides the last 100 calls ... they have nothing to do with locating.

But, my benefit is that I do own about 100 names, so I do have the flexibility to sell one of them as I still have solid other names to use for my mobile locating software.

Either way, very cool.

Oh yeah, I also own locatingcells.com (which has also been getting a substantial increase in traffic)

What they may end up doing is just passing legislation that requires authorization from the cell phone owner. I doubt anyone is doing anything illegal at the moment, just exploiting existing legal loopholes that nobody ever thought of.
