As more and more of these LLL.com domains will be owned by endusers they will become harder to buy and therefore prices will go up with prices for good letters increasing more than prices for bad letters. My guess is that by the end of this year minimum wholesale price will be around $4000, within two years $4500.

I think they will be minimum $7500 - $10,000 or more within 2 years, and that will be for what we term as the "crappy" ones.

What I also see happening is the LLL.com may be so price prohibitive for many to even consider purchasing which will, naturarlly, drive up the prices of alternative extensions where we are seeing the .com at the current levels.

Personally, I do not rule out the fact that .mobi will become a major force along with .cn and perhaps one or two other extensions. The emphasis is and will be on a mobile society and everything portable and convenient.

The reason should be obvious...currently 3 times more PDA's, cell phone and other personal devices than there are PC's in the world as well as China quickly becoming the number one country using computers by the year 2009.

Surely the industry and manufactures of these products are quite aware of these trends and I believe they will explore and exploit these markets on a massive scale within the next two years. Naturally, many of the marketing and research dollars will be put towards these efforts and that will bring with it a slew of advertising dollars also to promote these trends.

So, two years from now come back and look at this thread.

So, two years from now come back and look at this thread.

Here's how it stands, and what needs to happen for LLL.com domains to gain significantly more value than they have today:

1) The secret in the appreciation of value of LLL.com or any extension domain name is how it can be used as an acronym, abbreviation or a spoken word. Like mentioned in this thread, there's only so many, however most are already purchased by those companies that need or want or understand the value of a domain that fits this criteria for their company. Those domains aren't and will not be in the market for a long time.

2) The marketing angle would have to be promoted to the public and the business community that a three-letter domain filled with the letters J, X, Z, K, Q, V and do NOT fit the above (1) description, are "cool and memorable" and the fact that they are such "small" domain names, that makes them "even more cooler and desirable as a brand". Since that marketing position isn't being promoted to anyone outside the domain industry yet, the values of LLL.com domains rising significantly will determine whether they have the properties as described in #1 above, so, fat chance, unless you get started telling the world about how "cool" these short odd letter domains are.

Take heart though, because LLLL.com domains are next. Same theory of evaluation above will apply.
