I am looking at some cctld LLL domains in markets where they are still available and am curious if anyone has tips on how to choose the better LLL domains?

If LLL are still available, that is probably for a reason.

I would suggest that you analyze letter frequency in the target language(s). For example K or W are not much used in French. If you have a LLL like WKS.fr it may be harder to sell (more likely to sell to subsidiary of foreign company).
Some letters are missing in foreign alphabets too. In Icelandic Q W Z are almost never used etc.

Of course you need to consider the size of the local market too.

All letters are good letters in their respective market.
Otherwise, alphabets will not exist.

Without stating the obvious, getting an actual word would be good (sky, cat, dog etc), or a name (Leo, Jay, Ash, Dan, Bob, Bill, Jill etc).
Also abbreviations can be alright (faq, fmx, hdv, etc etc), repeating letters can also be okay (aaa, bbb, ccc etc) asending letters (abc, xyz etc) NNN's can also be looked at.

Cheers

i would say a good 3 Letter name is one that doesn't have an existing TM or service mark. The last thing you want to do is spend x,xxx + and have a lawyer come knocking.

wikipedia has some really useful charts, here is a link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency

also keep in mind that the frequency of letters is not the only factor, as certain letters are more likely to be the first letter of a word. For example, E, the most common letter in the english alphabet by far (~12%), only begins approximately 2% of english words, which makes it far less useful for acronyms than many other letters.
hope this helps
