Hiw many monthly searches do you consider a fair number to make a good name? I see many people say 3000 monthly searches to build a good affiliate site. for domains a couple of exact searches I'm somewhat happy.

How about how many for a .info
I just got a .info with a good niche and 12,000 monthly searches and likely couldn't get $15 for it on the forums.....

Tough question to answer.

If the word is a general term or word (could be a generic or phrase) , then you would hope for a large volume of traffic.

However, niche names are great and typically pay better on a per click basis. Rather than look at the exact matches of searches, I look at it as being the exact match of words. In other words, the domain (single or combination of words) is the exact match of what people are looking for. Volume wise, these niche names or specialties are not going to have the numbers that many look for. But by virtue of them being exactly what people are searching for, the traffic may be 1,000 unique views a month with a 25% conversion paying $6.12 per click. Do the math on that one (250 x 6.12) and it would take some pretty strong generic names with high search volume and conversion to meet those numbers.

No, I do not have specific names that do this good on a month to month basis. But this is an example of what niche names can knock down in terms of revenue even with a smaller volume of traffic.

I have had a $32.00+ click and several $16.00+ on the same name but this was a niche name and a market I am familiar with.

In one of the guide I uses it gives very heavy weight to searches with strong comp. I would really think it is mostly about total search and CPC the results are hard to follow in this format and in this case it doesnt show the low comp both are high. In this case weddingplan.info has 12k searches with a cpc of .82, and while I normally use this as a percentage guide I would think the name worth $30 period

TheaterSystems.info $320 1,790,000 878 0 high $2.59 All Taken
WeddingPlan.info $30 191,000 12,375 0 high $0.82 All Taken

You know, too many people put too much emphasis on metrics. And today, there are simply too many metrics.

I like my formula of if it looks good, feels good, and the price is right...well, perhaps a bad analogy as it sounds like I am describing a hooker at TRAFFIC.

hahahahah :D

btw i totally agree with you on this, screw all the metrics. When you've been dabbling with this long enough, I find that one develops a sense for spotting "them" without even thinking too much

Not sure about you guys, but yesterday I read an article about exact match domains going into pension... People say they're not as powerful as a year or two before, and I expected google to change that part of their algorithm... Lot's of folks realized how easily they can rank for the exact keyword and tried to pull all sorts of crap (hey, even I had some ideas of my own - and I almost pulled it off before realizing it's a very unstable business model), so that's slowly beginning to end as google makes it harder to pull off...

So my advice is, don't worry about whether your domain name has 5.000 or 10.000 exact searches, do some keyword research and combine phrases with lower competition and higher search volume. You'll easily top more than 5 times if your initial targeted search volume, given that most of the keyphrases won't have an exact match domain ranked at the top spot.

You don't need to be an SEO expert but you need to know how to perform basic keyword/competition research and decide what to do. My $0.02...

would you register the same domain if it had 200k searches, but was only available in .tk?

google search numbers are not the same as overture

it's futile to put a search number next to a domain that is not .com

unless google numbers includes the extension

imo
