Hello all,

I've been out the domains market for 3-4 years and everything has changed! I have a lot of catching up to do, but my main questions are:
  • What tools are you guys using nowdays? There used to be a suite of applications for parsing droplists and checking Overture, Backlinks, PageRank etc. But more of these are defunct now. So is there a new tool for searching droplists?
  • No OVT? What now... Is there a new way of monituring traffic/popularity of dropped domains?
Thanks for your time!

Neil

PS. I am quite an experienced web designer and PHP/MySQL developer, with over 12 years full-time professional experience under my belt. I am happy to take on logo design / template work / forum & blog skinning and small coding jobs in exchange for domain info, services, or PayPal funds!

i still use my two eyes and fingers to scroll lists, read newspapers, magazine articles, and to operate the remote on my tv :)

but common sense is the best tool you can have nowadays, to keep you from buying "bull shiz-zit"

Same as above, and I also like to script to parse the lists. Using the 'tools' that everybody uses, or looking at the same venues as everybody else means facing competition.
You need to stray away from the beaten path and find your own niche.
So the answer is: the best tools are the tools that are not available to others :)

In general the droplists have pretty much dried out. But I believe the good deals to be had on the aftermarket more than offset that. There are good opportunities available to those with cash in hand.

For simple quick stats ydnf.com (owned by a fellow domainer) is perfect. Other than that what the others have said!
