I just received a 500.00 offer for a parked domain. A nice sized initial offer for a 12 letter 2 word .org.

The email address is a very large religious organization.

So, here is my question: Based on the initial offer - what would you counter with? What would be your expectation of sale amount?

All the best,

Frank

Well this is what I did.

I wrote back and gave the person the stats over 6,700 OVT, 1.7 million googles over 1.8 million on Yahoo and said I was looking more along the lines of a 2,000 USD offer and that I had an interested buyer in UK as well.

So, we shall see what happens.

Those stats you gave them won't interest them at all. I'm not sure why you would only counter with $2,000. Seems like you are letting them control the negotiations that way.

Assuming the name isn't that great of a name, then I would have countered with at least $4,500 or so. If the name is strong then I would go higher.

If they would have offered $100 I bet you would have countered with less than $1,000. They gave you a layup by letting you know that they have deep pockets. Don't make it so easy on them. Even if you would gladly take the $500 you have to shoot a lot higher than $2,000. If they call your bluff then you can send them an email in two weeks and drop down. These aren't nickel dime domainers who get a complex and then won't want the name. If they want it now, they will likely want it in two weeks.

It is your name and you are in control, so use that to your advantage. More money is left on the table in this exact same manner than in any other way. You need to break this habit immediately or else it might cost you millions over the next 40 years.

Large religious organizations have LOTS of money. Don't give it away because they are a religious organization.

I received a couple of emails from a guy who used religious email and asking me for my domain prices. I sent him replies but never heard back from him.

Same person?
