What's the attraction to domaining for you?

Hey all,
I recently shown a friend some domains I have, and his response was: "What's the attraction to domaining?"

This stumped me for a bit I replied that I find it fun to speculate on domain's values; to buy some, sell some, and end up making a profit (hopefully!).

Now it's your turn: What's the attraction to domaining, for you?

it's a fascinating little business The fact that some day I will be sitting back and enjoying the income from the cash machine called parking is what attracts me the most. I research domains many hours/week and I don't even mind as long as the outcome is rewarding

If I wasnt doing this i would be digging for gold, or scuba diving for lost treasure, benny of this is it can be done with a cup of coffee in one hand and its only 20 ft from my bed and 5 ft from my AC/TV

Reasearch and investment... it's a low risk high return business requiring low liquidity and has little barriers to entry

All the above reasons, but also gives me total freedom.
I can work wherever & whenever i like.
I don't have to take crap from colleagues or a boss. I am the boss.
It's fun, inetresting & exciting.
Every sale is a buzz.
I see my daughter growing up & take her to scvhool & pick her up. Days out all the time. School holidays we go out most every day somehwere.
Loads of dads & moms don't see their kids grow up. Leaving work at 6am & getting back 8pm when kids in bed. Sad. None of that for me.
There is real hope that BIG money can be rolling in too, in the future as way i see it, i'm sitting on a lot of golden eggs. Development is key & is another angle too.
Theres loads of legends like yourselves to chat to every day.
It's awesome!!!!!!

Creativity.

Believe it or not, there are still many never before regged words or combos with exceptional potential. And equally successful.

Having a creative spark or an idea come on or just pop into your head and then you check it out and it is available is cool. Regging it and watching the thing make money or getting a sale on it is even better. Or turning it into a website and having it become successful and a gem is the greatest.

Actually, it about the chicks. Chicks dig guys who sit a the computer and ignore them.

All the above reasons, but also gives me total freedom.

I am amazed at your dedication to this industry and even more to your dedication to your own family and humanity.

Many are not aware of your work outside of domaining like I am from our many chats.

So lets add that to the list of the attractions to domaining...joining a forum and getting to meet and know people from all walks of life that have dedicated their lives to helping others and find domaining a source to achieve those goals.

Domaining for me is a business based on words, letters, and numbers. It's like a fun game and I think I have talent on these little things.
And it makes me money.

Well my attractions include money ( bulk loads of it ) and secondly i would go witht he reasons stated by Predator and Doc Com ..i study ( err forced to study ) ..earn more money than many people who slog their a$$'s off on a 9-5 job..and when most of the people search for jobs i will be hiring people to work for me ..its cant get any cooler...i get time to flirt full time..and the greatest thing is learning life skills i have met some of the most interesting and intelligent people in the domain's and webmaster area ..i always get to learn something new and rewarding every single day..all this is much more than just domains guys

- Be your own boss, work on your own hours
- There is no pricing in this business. You can price anything you want as each name is unique
- There is no need for office, warehouse - All you need is a computer & Internet access
- It's flexible and profitable (unless someone scammed you)

I would say for me it's simply "drive".

Whether sitting on hundreds, thousands, millions or billions, the key to success is keeping the same drive and feelings towards the industry that made you get started in the first place.

It's that rush you get when you get a serious offer on a domain or the rush you feel when you look at the clock and see it's time to check your earnings.

The key is drive, I am driven to be the best I can be.

I wont' stop being "driven" by this industry until they close the coffin door on me.

I am basically a serial entrepreneur and have new ideas for business ventures on a daily basis...regging my ideas is what got me into domaining...the rush of developing and profiting on my ideas is really the main attraction that has kept me hooked.

It is like I have 700+ businesses and growing every day.

For me, it's about "figuring it out". I'm a big fan of trends, cyclical metodology, patterns... trying to figure out WHY things are the way they are. What drives them. What makes them 'tick'.

Domains, for me, are a great quandry in prediction. That's what I like about this "buisness".

That and the big square blue spot in my vision after heading to bed after 12 hours of starring at my LCD screen. 8)

I have always envisioned walking along a beach and picking up shiny rocks. Many will never be anything but shiny rocks. The problem is that shiny rocks get heavy. You can only carry so many.
But...... there are many gems there as well, and it's often hard to tell the difference. And sometimes, shiny rocks can become gems and you hate to throw one away that may be worth something.
So... when the wife states that I must have rocks in my head, she is absolutely right.
