Hi, all :)

This is my first post and I am a relative newbie at the domain game... This seems like the right place to raise my "rookie" questions

I have 3 domains parked with Sedo. I can view the status of each from my Sedo account, and I noticed that all of them (even those who were getting a reasonable amount of views) generate almost no "clicks".

FYI, clicks (on Sedo parked domains) generate a fee for the domain owner.

I was wondering why the # of clicks is so low. The pages which Sedo produce for the parked domain include many topic-related banners, and it seems reasonable that people will click on them.

One such example is warzone.tv

I am not asking for your help in generating clicks! :)
But WOULD like an explanation for their absence.

Thanx, Drookie

view is looking at the ad.
Click is actually clicking thru the ad

I doubt warzone.tv would get any views at all...
Usually, the number of clicks is about 0.5%-1.0% of the number of views.

So If a domain got 500 views a day, chances are it would get about 3-6 clicks per day. You need large amounts of traffic, or very targeted traffic for it to work....seems like warzone.tv wont really give you either....

Thanks Biggedon and GT Web.

It's getting approx. 20 hits (views) per day. I checked Overture (the only tool I know about so far) :) and received a large number of permutations. I also know that the .tv TLD is problematic...

What if I took it off the parking host and created a page for it. I am not sure what "very tergeted traffic" means (maybe anything to do with a game named "warzone", or something similar.

Do you think it's worth the effort?

Thanks, Drookie

Targeted traffic means that if your domain is about cars, you dont have people interested in gardening showing up there. I know TV names are expesive but in 99.9% of the time they are a waste of money....Overture doesnt tell you about HITS, it just tells you how much time something has been SEARCHED. I would put up a simple 3 page site....and spend a week trying to promote it, if it fails after a week, scrap it, you wont have lost much and it is worth the gamble. Remember, every name has the potential to be very valuable and high traffic. Google.com and Yahoo.com are both examples of cheap domain names (when they were first reg'd) that are now big money because they have been promoted correctly

I just wanted to add that I know this is not a domain appraisal forum.

I was looking for advice on how to make (a small) profit from a domain (any domain) until it's sold (if at all). What are the options open to me to do this?

Thanks, Drookie

Some useless info that some may not know. The word Google was derived from the word googol, which is the word for the number 10 raised to the power 100 , written out as the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros :D

1,000,000 = one million = 10^6

1,000,000,000 = one billion = 10^9

1,000,000,000,000 = one trillion = 10^12

1,000,000,000,000,000 = one quadrillion = 10^15

1,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one quintillion = 10^18

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one sextillion = 10^21

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one septillion = 10^24

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one octillion = 10^27

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one nonillion = 10^30

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one decillion = 10^33

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
= one undecillion = 10^36

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
= one duodecillion = 10^39

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
= one tredecillion = 10^42

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
= one quattuordecillion = 10^45

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000 = one quindecillion = 10^48

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000 = one sexdecillion = 10^51

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000 = one septendecillion = 10^54

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000 = one octodecillion = 10^57

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000 = one novemdecillion = 10^60

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000 = one vigintillion = 10^63

10^100 (1 followed by one hundred zeroes) = one googol and 10^googol = 10^(10^100) = one googolplex.

That would mean one googol is

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

and one googolplex would be a 1 followed by 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000 zeroes.

They must have been psychic predicting what they would become... I am sure they'll soon reach googol ;)

BTW Yahoo (originally created by 2 Stanford students in 94) stands for "Yet another Hierarchical Officious Oracle" (the first hierarchical directory created when there were only spiders, like altavista ... ;)
