It is probably also the only one that will involve the formation of a New Registry, so this is the main event as far as speculation is concerned. It seems highly unlikely that most major ccTLDs are going to actually run two versions of their ccTLD. Chinese ccTLDs are are already linked and Japan and India have already sent pretty clear signals that they will take a similar approach.

More and more places and services popping up to promote and sell IDNs in Japan. Check out this marketing link.

So how about idns?

ICANN are flying under the radar with this as is Verisign. We are getting very little in Google New about these. However, as ICANN have spent much of their time over the last three years preparing for their launch which will happen in Paris in just over a weeks time, then you might reasonably expect that to change. The problem is that it is becoming clear that much of what was there to register has already gone. The only opportunity that is almost certain to arise is in the Russian ccTLD, so it is time to start registering Trademarks in Cyrilic Characters.

The bottom line is that those big names that have totally screwed this are never going to admit it now. They will continue to try to hinder the progress of IDN and attempt to bring ridicule upon us, but the bottom line is that browser support is gaining traction and with it comes traffic, and publicity surrounding IDN in the target markets is all but inevitable. So the truth is Rick and Sahar can think and say what they want. It won't make a bind bit of difference in the end. TRAFFICS and probably Moniker will enclose themselves within an Anglo Saxon ghetto whilst International Markets develop without them. Hosting meetings in Australia around the same tired old themes won't change anything. Neither will insisting that much of Asia natural communicates in English. People will access Internet content that is relevant to them. They will also do it by typing in Keywords in whatever script they feel comfortable in. All we can do is call the dice and wait for them to pitch. It is all down to what is going to pass the telephone test.

That is massive news as Russian Cyrilic are already getting very substantial traffic. This should massively spur development of these domains and massively raise awareness.

I guess with the .рф news hitting the mainstream media Yandex decided to get onboard. Information came from "Glownames" via idnf. The Russians are doing pretty good typing in and hitting sites...I sure wish the same kind of publicity would light the fuse for local language domains in Japan. Guess its just a matter of waiting for idn.idn publiciity to kick in.

?????????

to describe domains as CVCVC or LLLLLL is nonsense
(except you want to emphasize that they do not contain numbers/hyphens)

if you have a good keyword, it does not matter where the consonants are, or how many letters it has, or even so-called bad ("non-premium") letters (e.g. sex, quote, debt)

and if you know how many LLLLLL domains exist...

I'm glad there's no mad rushes going on. It seems like people are taking a breather and some consolidation is happening. The summer is a good time to re-assess your portfolio and get ready for the busier fall/winter seasons. Quite a few big auctions coming up too.

Yes let's get over the summer first before making any assumptions over the state of things I have a good feeling about the industry in general now and September will be the pick up, the reseller market will begin to flourish again the same as it has in the past - no worries there! Bare in mind "Where other markets are failing the focus turns on alternatives".

We've seen a drop is prices for 3L and 4L .coms for sure.

I think generics in .com will continue to rise. I think generics aimed more at content than commerce in .net and .org and .info will rise too (.info generics seem to be rising especially, although I'm put off by stories of Google disliking .info domains).

I don't know why people are saying that LLL.com prices have dropped. I see even "bad letter" LLL.coms go for $xx,xxx nowadays. It seems like LLL.com's with only 1 good letter and 2 medium/bad easily sells for $9k-$11k. Looks to me like LLL.com's are on a steady rise (as they've always been). Maybe I've missed a few sales then? :)

WMR.com $9,600
RLU.com $10,296
NST.com $20,200
EOB.com $14,000
WJA.com $8,000
LJL.com $9,300
NUJ.com $8,001
RXL.com $8,920
KNU.com $9,450
MPU.com $8,802
XAS.com $9,500
XEI.com $9,100
VRU.com $10,000
ASJ.com $15,300
TKG.com $15,000
OOH.com $55,000
ANM.com $23,654

These are all from July '08.

maybe, if we express the prices in dollars
if we use other currencies, the situation looks quite differently

10 years ago i received 4K and 5K for W**.com and X**.com respectively
i am glad i did not keep them

Russian clicks
The other day a saw a huge Cyrillic portfolio (not mine), 6000+ strong.
It gets enough traffic to pay for approx. 70% of it's renewal fees.
And mind you, the ppc are still meager, 1c to 5 c.

really?

tell us some examples please, so that we can learn something

Well if you are waiting for a transparent market, then you are going to be looking at buying in the 6 figure plus range.

There was no transparency in the ASCII market before anything of any real value was way out of reach. IDN will be no different.

There are domains being bought and sold, but the sellers are not advertising and the buyers are not declaring. That is just how it is. But if you want clarification on market conditions, go see Berryhill, he is handling a lot of the transactions, from what I have seen.

I would think .org would go before .mobi :bolt:

I consur, .mobi still seems high risk...a big corp. would need to actively use and market a .mobi for it to get the hedgemonic attention it needs to gain momentum but org. can stand on it's own already...
