Do you mean a rush for domains like this, or just the next internet trend?

Can you see domains like this really appreciating in value? Hard to imagine buying up lots of domains like this, they wouldn't get much traffic, you might get the odd sale, but could it really be worthwhile? An individual might just choose a .net, .org, .info, or choose a different string of words altogether for their blog. These seem like very specific domains that would only interest small amounts of people, or maybe I'm missing something?

The next big rush on the internet is personalization and socialization.

ie, first names with pages like with blog.com and things like that.

GISELLESBLOG.COM
PAYTONSBLOG.COM
PAIGESBLOG.COM
HAYLEESBLOG.COM
HOPESBLOG.COM

Well, it's probably a good strategy for popular names - Mike, Paul, James, Lisa, etc., because it's a bigger market. And as far as personalizations go, I bet most people I know don't even own a domain yet, unless they have a business that requires one. Buying personal domains isn't even on the radar yet for the majority. If ever there is a reason for everyone to need/want their own domain name, what a boost to the market that would be.

Adam, are you still bullish on IDNs? You haven't said a whole lot on the subject (that I have read) since recommending them back in first quarter of 06'. Lots of money ($14 million) budgeted for IDN and idn gTLD rollout in the 2009 ICANN budget.

I think we all have enough extensions for now. There's .biz .cc .ws .name .travel .aero .jobs and others that no one cares about. I don't think that .xxx is going to be adopted any better than any other extension.

Frank Shilling has said in the past that he would like to see .web come out and how it could rival .com. Now we have .me and .asia coming out... who cares? Speculators and trademark lawyers. That's it.

Stay with the extension that is popular in your country. Period.

Sure, speculate a bit but with balance.

I got robsblog(.)ca based on Adam's input here. the .com .net .org and .info are taken already. there actually are a lot of people using firstname + blog domains for their blogs.

I don't really see the vanity blog names as a viable investment.
I don't think most people wanting to start a personal blog will pay that much over an alternative. I don't see the price ceiling vs. renewal fees being worth the time.

I'm not saying you won't make a return, but will that return be the best use of your capital?

I am not that good a mind reader, but I did register 1000 such names last weekend. .com and .ca only.

As for the IDN's, I still have faith in them and kept th top 2000 earners I had over the last few years, let another 3000 drop. They had no revenue or traffic in 3 years so I had to release them ;)

He registered 4k (or more?) LLLL.coms a couple of years ago without much trouble. They were quad premiums worth $2 million now, though..

There are only a certain amount of first names to go around for a possible blog.com rush, and even so people have probably cleaned up by now. If anything I can see it crossing over to first and last names which is a bigger pond - watch the rush .. :)

I have my money on .us
