If you right click on the IE button in the windows tray, then select properties and add -nohome to the end of the IE call, you'll find it loads a bit faster.

But one thing I could never live without is the Google search bar. I use it more than anything!

That could be because you setup your connection using an ISPs CD. This is really bad practice as they mess around with your registry and some use non-standard browsers. AOL is the worst with their locked browser that cuts out a lot of your security options.
