A domain I wanted expired on Dec 22 and was picked up (by someone offering to sell it for $5,000 - yeah, right). Since yesterday the DNS hasn't been responding and the registration went back to the pre-drop status.

When might it "drop" to be available for register? (I've been trying to hand-reg it the past couple of days).

Here's the WhoIs information, it was last changed on 12-28:

Record dates:
Record created on: 2004-11-18 02:47:36 UTC
Record modified on: 2008-12-28 06:10:00 UTC
Record expires on: 2008-11-18 UTC

I hate the waiting part. :)

I thought tasting of .com/.net is over via the charging of a "restocking fee" by the registry? Or has this not been implemented yet?

the "restocking fee" has been implemented, as far as I know, through Dynadot anyway. But really, it's a nominal fee (.20), and the convenience of being able to have five full days (120 hours) to check the traffic, and having the option to delete for credit if I am not satisfied, is worth it. imho

(domain removed since it is still not available *grrr....*)

$0.20 is what it was last year (I could have sworn it was that last year). It should be higher - a few bucks at least but I think $0.20 will deter a lot of tasters since $0.20 times a couple thousand names can quickly add up to a large fee.

Tasting activity is still taking place but you need to be more selective to make it worthwhile.

One question -

I paid for it, I see the transaction in my PayPal account, then why isn't it in my account???

(Don't have time to call now, I sent them an email, though).

Edit: Just checked my registrar contact email:

The following domain name has failed to be registered:(domain) Error: (domain): cannot register - already registered We will evaluate this error and retry the registration if appropriate. If we are unable to successfully register the domain name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please allow one business day for the refund to be processed.
Um.....
It was available last night (WhoIs hasn't updated yet, either).

You can't register yet.
It may show up as available at some places as it has no name servers and is not in the zone file for that reason.
Code:
  Domain Name: ##########.COM
  Registrar: FABULOUS.COM PTY LTD.
  Whois Server: whois.fabulous.com
  Referral URL: [url]http://www.fabulous.com[/url]
  Name Server: No nameserver
  Status: redemptionPeriod
  Updated Date: 28-dec-2008
  Creation Date: 17-nov-2004
  Expiration Date: 17-nov-2008

Yes, I know, this is quite annoying. :( We'll see what happens.

sdsinc - would you mind removing the domain from your post? I'd like to have this quiet for now, but I'll post it again when (and if) it becomes available again.

I'd prefer less competition since I don't want someone to grab the domain then promote puppy mills and back yard breeders (which is what happens with many similar domains). Thank you!
