I know that the registrars have stopped taking applications for the LL2. When will it all be decided? I had the info somwhere, but misplaced it. :) Wasn't it the beginning of July?

Afilias is given themselves some slack on this. But expect results any day now.

Dang, this will be a good start for .info. 17,000 names - many of the best generics in the world, all locked up since Sept 2001.

No wonder .info has had a slow start.

I really thought it had a chance, even amongst the original trio.

Then all that BS started with fake TMs and works... it really turned me off. Everyone with a fake Tm caught the best generics.
In the mean time, i was trying to see if .info or even .biz caught on with the public.... but alas and it did not.

Even now, so many months later, no one knows what the hell .info and biz is.

You can talk all you want shed light to whatever you want to prove that infos are great, they have a chance etc... but you and i both know you are only trying to prove to yourself that you did not waste 1000s on your info registrations...that you did not actually make a mistake

but the fact remains...

There are totally worthless, look around, look at whats being offered for the best generic infos in the aftermarket...nada !!
why?
BEACUSE NOBODY CARES OR KNOWS THEM.

I have a couple of infos too, but unlike many who reged them, i know when i make a mistake..... i know when something has no hope.....

Don't take my word for it.... just look around you

The Directi.com bidding for LR2 has just closed. IMO they had by far the best buildup and information to their subscribers.

But now comes the round robin fisticuffs and then we'll see what happens after the dust settles. I was after just two names.

Nic it is obvious that the market has not picked up on the new TLDs YET. Many people assume that since because the new TLDs involve the Internet the process would be much faster. True for some cases but not for this one. First of all domain specualators and registrars is only a very small fraction of Internet users today. What is obvious and old news to us, is still unlear and unheard news for the majority. The time will come when we will experience and new economic boom like we had during the .com period (maybe not as big). Inflated prices for .coms will slowly lead the market to the new TLDs. For the USA I think that the .us will be the first choice for most of these people. I would say we will see some results within a year. Of course it will take a very long time for other TLDS to even get near the .com, but it has to start somewhere and sometime. Remember that domain speculators is a big factor in why I believe we will see this change take place. The scaricity of the good .coms and inflated prices to obtain those will be the major factors behind the change. Why pay thousands of dollars for a .com when you can pay much less for a .us?

There is a reason why people are willing pay thousands to get a .com , than register any other extension (.info.us.tv.cc etc)

you know the reason

kvinsencius hereis a question for you...

What would you rather have, music.com, music..us, music.org, music.cc ?

:)

Easy one!! Music.com would be my choice. Like I pointed out before. The .com is and will remain number 1. But I think the other TLDs will help to level out the play field a little bit more. Also .cc, .ws, and .tv are country codes of other countries. That why it's not easy to understand why they have not become a hit here. Why would Americans buy ccTLDs from other countries?

All I'm trying to say that ultimately it is the market who will decide. The big players will most probably get a .com for their business. Maybe even .us if they mainly deal with a domestic market rather than an international market. The .us, .biz, and .info will mainly be the choice of businesses and regular people with less capital to spend. Also I think the .info will be the choice of many non-profit organizations in the future. But it will take some time before these changes are to take place.

That is just my vision and I'm sure a lot don't share my view. Only time will tell what the future holds :)

You forget one thing....
The internet is not local... i.e american, russian, korean etc.
Its world wide (hence the WWW) ;)

you said " .cc, .ws, and .tv are country codes of other countries "

What do you think .us is ? a gTLD like a .com or a .net ?
The same way you feel about .ws, .tv , .cc is how the rest of the countries feel about .us...
and "the playing field leveling", I really doubt it when it comes to .us, maybe for the other two* new gTLDs (info and biz)

why? the playing field is the globe

two* notice i said two, because the other tlds Icann decided to put out are worse than what my dog does after it digests.

I have to agree with you on that. They stink!! :)

The reason why I mentioned just .cc , .ws, and .tv is that they were offered here in the US for registration without any restrictions. I know that a lot of countries in Europe and Australia has had huge success with their own ccTLDs. I doubt that Samoa (ws), Tuvalu (tv), and Cocos Islands (cc) have much use for their own country codes. As a matter of fact I read that a huge part of Tuvalu's income came from the .TV domain registration (over a year ago). The US was the last country to get their own CC and that is mainly because .com has always beena associated as an American .TLD.

I also know that most of the .biz and .info registraions belong to Europeans. I guess that they are thinking that the US got the previous gTLDs and we will not be left behind this time :)

DomeBase. Thanks for your input. I guess some of my predictions are turning out to be right. Interesting list. Where did you pull it from? One more thing, I also think we might see companies (large) in the future using .info to promote a certain product, campaign etc.

It’s accepted that the value of a domain name is what an individual or firm will pay for it. Some may find interesting the following information I’ve compiled of the top 163 bids placed with one registrar in the .info LandRush2:

113 bids $2,000 -$4,000
27 bids $4,000 - $6,000
12 bids $6,000 - $9,000
5 bids $10,000 - $15,000
4 bids $15,000 - $22,000
2 bids $25,000 - $35,000 (porn.info $25,110 and hawaii.info $35,010)

This doesn’t include bids ranging from $50 to $2,000 for another 4,500 .info domain names.

While some .info bashers may immediately dismiss it as being people wasting their money, the amounts establish a verifiable market price for generic .info names.

If good websites eventuate from the thousands of generic .info names being redistributed in the next few days, this will certainly raise the profile of .info in the minds of people worldwide.

.com will always be the best TLD, but I strongly believe that .info will grow to become the next logical choice for those who can’t get the best .com in their industry or organization.

They are part of a list of working .INFO sites at my site (DomeBase.com/infolist.htm) which I put together with a lot of work from a number of sources.

Actually, probably not all of this particular list may be strictly not-for-profit organizations... but certainly that theme. Also a number of churches and musical groups using .INFO as main site.

Regardless of the current value (or lack of value) of .info domains, I'll be tickled if I end up getting any in the LR2 process. Whenever I consider registering a domain I make sure it's something I'd want to develop myself, so I stuck to that rule when requesting .info LR2 names. The chances of actually obtaining any are slim, I know, but it's fun to hope... and if I'm successful I'll contribute to making more .info content available out there.

Me too, jalapeno.

I only went for growth.info and interactive.info for fun. Can't play the system what with closed short queues and everything.

Apparently, July 15th is D-Day.

I wish all those participating in LL2 the very best of luck and fortune.
