I would only like to register a .WS domain name for one year.
I can only find them for 2 years minimum. The cheapest I have found for 2 years is around 18 dollars.

Can anyone shed a little light on what the best and cheapest place to register a .WS through experience is located?

Thanks, Gary T

buy a shredder and stick your money in there.

If min is 2 years in places you have looked, then its gonna be a min everywhere. Its like the .co.uk's, you have to reg them for 2 years.

Geez, just when ICANN announced plans to introduce new gTLDs like .shop, people are still registering .WesternSamoa:confused:

The extreme artificial scarcity is OVER. PERIOD. FINITO.

I don't know who told you that .WS stands for Western Samoa.
I am was under the impression that WS stood for WebSite.

Correct me if I am wrong on this.

Sincerely, Gary T.

YOU ARE WRONG!!

The hucksters who are peddling .WS are trying to tell people it means web site. (BULL SHITE would be more like it).

.WS is the official country code for WESTERN SAMOA. That is all it is. That has been stated over and over in this forum but people keep falling for the phony baloney "web site" marketing scam the registry is putting out.

If you are going to do business in Western Samoa primarily, then by all means go for it! Otherwise I would steer clear of it. Be sure to click on Mole's link above for a list of all of the country codes.

Who cares what it stands for.

99% of internet users don't see it and think "Oh, western samoa"

I agree... it doesnt matter what it stands for....

But the fact is, no one types it in. If you need a good one-worder for search engines to pick up....you can use it to forward to your main site...

Thats about all...I'd stay away :)

It's true that internet surfers can't recite which countries go with which codes, but if one of them ever does stumble upon a .WS, I think they are savvy enough to recognize it as a foreign name. Country codes were instituted for a reason. My business is in the U.S. so I do not use a .co.uk domain. There is no reason to make my customers think I am in another country (especially since I ship a lot or product that they would assume costs far more to ship to them from overseas).

Most businesses consider their domain identity to be a very important part of how the public perceives them. I see nothing but negatives in leading buyers to believe you are based in a third world country halfway around the globe (an impression clearly delivered by extensions like .CC and .WS).

Yeah I love how everyone bashes .ws. First of all who cares what .ws stands for. Do you really think that the majority of the people surfing the internet know what .com stands for, besides domainers? I don't think so. The fact is .ws is good marketing scheme....and to prove it, my highest domain sale to date has been a .ws. If the rest of you guys wanna sit around and miss the boat because of skepticism, that's fine more .ws domains available for me to reg!

BTW.... WS domains can be regged at GoDaddy.com for one year for $9.99.
