Am I the only one seeing a substantial decrease in premium .com's dropping? From my vantage point, it seems like over the last 2 - 3 months, the drop auctions have nearly dried up completely on the premium level.

[a] Am I not looking deep enough?
Is my observation accurate, and the premium drop market is becoming almost exclusively a backdoor operation?

1) I also saw this downward tendency, but it can be understanded as a temporary STEADY atmosphere, which compared with the upsurge of .com auction earlier this year.......

2) I don't deny if there were some backdoor operators who can function on this

3) Wait for the next auction upsurge...........for what? .tv? . mobi.?

I noticed that too. It seems all drops consist of junk domains (barely worth the reg fee) for which they want $59 and up.

I think one of the reasons is registrars becoming their own drop catcher and auction house.

Think TDNAM.

The bulk of their domains are crap and speculative from the beginning. But there have been a few LLL.com and LLL.net worth fighting over as well as keyword rich domains.

May also have to factor in tons of new domainers entering the market as well as domaining in the news. That in itself may prompt some folks to renew their domains hoping to hit it big on the auction pages.

Not to mention domainers hoarding domains and unsolicited emails from domainers. As much as I hate getting these on a daily basis, unquestionably it is working for some. But after a while I would think countless emails to some folks would raise suspicions and have domain holders look more into domaining and hold out for higher prices.
