Where to find databases?

I would like to move forward with development of Doggie dot us.

I envision a searchable site for

State-by-state dog shelters
Breed rescue groups

I've been searching
dog shelter database

and so on.

I have not found anything viable.
Any suggestions on where to look for or purchase such a thing?

Unfortunately, not yet.

I am debating to take it to Wordpress.

I am also wondering if updating that particular site to Joomla 1.5 would help (I think it is still 1.xx).

I love Joomla but I can work much faster in Wordpress.

I've used Oddity several times. They will take custom requests although they aren't always quick to respond.
