As far as ccTLD's go Dot US is a good investment, there is no doubt about that. I've hedged my own portfolio with some dot us names (for development purposes). HOWEVER....
Don't buy Dot US because everyone here seems to be. Do it because the Dot US name you are thinking of buying would be better than the dot com version. Example:
DO NOT Buy 2nd rate dot US names such as SupplyMarketersR.US
If it's available and you're thinking about developing the name, no problem, but to buy it for "investment" purposes... You might as well get the '.com'
As new TLDs com out there are certain to be more "favourites"... Only buy the best, most liquid names. Made up names, or 2nd tier names in the new TLDs will continue to pile up and be "plentiful", if you catch my drift.
My personal preference for TLDs btw are in this order: 1) .COM 2) .BIZ 3).US
