Hi there,

I am looking to obtain a domain for the US based arm of a Canadian company and the one we want is available in the following tlds:

The ones available are:

.us
.net
.biz
.org

Can I get some input as to what might seem better to an American?

Since we have the .ca for Canada, I am leaning towards the .us for the United States, but I thought I would seek some opinions first...

Thanks!

.net .biz .us I'd have to say in that order. biz and us could be switched around, but .net IMHO is the better extension.

Thanks jdk, I generally would go for a .net first, but in this case I was thinking that the .us made a nice compliment to the .ca, but, it is all about having people find the site, and remeber the url to type in, so, as an American, do you type in .net before .us on most occaisions?

I would suggest registering both .net and .us too.
perhaps use .us a primary domain and redirect .net to .us (play the patriotic card :greenwink:)
I know that .net is more established than .us but be a pioneer ;-)
Since you are a crossborder company the us-ca combo sounds good

Thanks for the advice everyone, the client actually chose to go with .us.com just because it was the exact keyword that he has in .ca, the available .us .net .biz etc... were a slight variation of the .ca version, and the customer is always right...

I've noticed the .us.com's are going like crazy. They are a bit more expensive, but there are still many single-word, three-letter, etc domains still left. I went to CentralNIC and found them to be the easiest to use.

If you are registering the Oficial Name of a Company, to avoid Trademarks issues in the future I would suggest to register all you mentioned. Then you just redirect them to one or two of your domains. Paying registration/annual fees is much cheaper than paying lawyers...
