I have a friend who wants to make a website critical of an organization that is known for going after anyone who criticizes them.

I've heard some places offer private registration, but basically give up the info with no resistance.

What's the best option there?

Also, what about hosting? Are there some large hosting companies that would also be protective of owner information?

Thanks for any advice, whether who to use, or who to not use.

Who allows money orders for domain registration?

That solution might require fake whois info too, which would get the domain revoked.

I'm just trying to give this guy a reasonable measure of protection. There's nothing illegal going on, and the worst risk he might face is a civil suit. He's willing to take that risk (and I'm honestly not sure how big the risk is, and don't think he'd lose anyway). I just want to give him a little insulation.

PM me....
I know of a company that will do this.
However, the TOS is strict about illegal activities.
assuming he/she just wants protection for varius reasons, that can be taken care of.
*however*, if this has anything to do with illegal actions such as child porn, drugs etec... forget about it.
If the person for whatever reasons wishes to remain completely in the backgroung, yes, this can be done.
actually, if you want complete security, do not PM me, but email me using the email feauture of DNF.

There are several registrars that you can set up a free account with a hotmail addy then fund it by sending money order to your account before you register domains , I think registerfly is one of them. The company you set the whois to does not necesarily have to be fake , it dont cost much to set up a company and keep the owner hidden, and use the hotmail addy for your reg account but make sure you login every 30 days and use the addy account so it does not expire.

search, most of these companies are liablw to disclose info upon a court order.
there is ony 1 that I know of that will not, under any condition disclose any info no matter what....
as far as know they have recieved at least 3 requests from interpol and a few from the FBI and have refused to disclose any info by their swiss lawyers referring to a UN privacy law.
If you really want to hide, you really need to seek....
I am sure there are many companies that say they do this, but only 1 has the clause that they will if necesarry disolve the company and 'cease all operations' in case they are forced to do NOT name their clients....
these people know what they are doing and have been used ironically by both Israely hard liners and anti Israel web sites. They do not care who you are as long as you do not trade in child porn, terrorism, and the 'pursuit of military equipment that can harm civilians'. Freedom of speech still exists.

That is definately the way for him to go then seeker , rather then time consuming steps to do yourself.

There's nothing remotely resembling your examples of unacceptable issues.

It's a freedom of speech issue, plain and simple. Consider it like a site critical of WalMart, McDonald's, or something like that. I only want him to be able to publish his opinions without fear of getting clobbered. He doesn't really care so much, but I feel a duty to give him good advice as a friend.

I sent you a PM with more details. Ty.

Ask the webmasters of the people with anti-Scientology sites. They asre dealing with worst-case-scenario attacks on people who reveal their scam.

Oh, wait, don't bother with Lisa McPherson, they murdered her.

ouch!

Anyways, what the biggest issue I think is finding a host that isn't going to cave in with just a simple email to their abuse department.

Sure you can hide your whois info, but they can still contact the host or even go above them to the owner of the IP and complain. Finding the right host is essential.

FOr a host that is truly independant, you can try havenco.com. Good luck on your search for freedom of speech.

I want no part of something like that.

I'm happy to give my friend advice, becuse I owe it to him. I'm his friend. He deserves the best advice I can give him.

I am sure anyone will give the info away if order by the court. I am not sure if this is the same for oversea's registrars. I am assuming if they are not ICANN accred. then they wouldnt have to follow all the same guidelines.

I just wanted to clarify that what "I want no part of" is some org coming after me, so I am staying as "hands off" as I can besides giving him advice.

A very interseting topic. How come none of these companies are being mentioned publicly? I am assuming they do exist and are open for business...so why the hush-hush attitude?

to be anonymous, open an e-gold account (www.e-gold.com), fund it with some money. you can set up the e-gold account to carry bogus information. then you use either a registrar who accepts e-gold, might be hard to find, or use a site like www.goldstores.com that will buy with their credit card and the information of your choice as long as you pay them in e-gold.

good luck.
