Thoughts? :D
Does the drop mean that Ford no longer hates Volvo?

LOL. Whenever I'm stuck in a slow moving traffic queue, it always seems to be a Volvo at the front so I sympathise with them :D

Got a Volvo 2004 S60, love it, credit it with saving my wife and I during a high speed blow out on driver's side front. Great car, 33K miles, and I'm hanging on to it.

Anyways, for those that don't know or even care to know, Ford is now the majority shareholder in Volvo. Looks to me like they pulled a smart move...regged a name before someone else.

Can't knock Ford too bad. Got a 1985 F150 with more than 300K and still hauls ass. The largest production motor available at the time. Father-in-law bought it to haul a huge trailer. Gas guzzler but use it for hauling large loads and stuff to the landfill.

My worst vehicles ever?

Renault Alliance and Plymouth Cricket. If you wanted parts for the Cricket you had to buy another car. Made in the UK. No one believed me, everyone thought it was Japanese. Impossible to find car parts. Needed a replacement tail light lens? 25 bucks at the junk yard or $200 for the car.

And thank God my Renault Alliance was Car of the Year the year I bought it because once that year was up, so was the car. Biggest piece of crap. Impossible to get serviced once Jeep bought them out. 90 days for a thermostat to come from Mexico.

Awesome vehicle and awesome ride. Looking at one once the lease is up on the S60 (4 months...paying it off and keeping it). Sister brought a new XC90 back after their 4 years in Amsterdam with the military. They had nothing but praise for the folks at the Volvo facility in Sweden. Treated them like royalty so I would expect you will have the same first class service.

Also looking at an Audi or Benz.

Hot damn...We got our selves a car thread!

I've just been looking at an XC90, nice car. Also thinking of a Subaru Tribeca - nice drive for an SUV but not as much space as the Volvo.

Cayenne for a 997 Turbo...
aka Touareg. Was looking a the V10 deisel not too long ago. Still have not ruled that out 100%. I have not test driven one but did manage to see one on display. Flawless fit and finish. Very impressive...very comfortable and roomy.

I've been thinking to trade my Cayenne for a 997 Turbo...

Do it - the guy next door just traded his 996 turbo for a 997 turbo - gloss black with black leather, same as his Range Rover Sport; and he's a nice guy too....

That 997 is a fantastic car, the word awesome is over used, but fits it perfectly.

For me it was a tossup between the Audi SUV and Volvo. MB was out because their European delivery program didn't have a SUV. Volvo mainly won out because the last European delivery I did was in Germany picking up a BMW 750LI. Sweden is a change of scenery. Also the Volvo pick up program is better. You get 2 round trip airline tickets and one night hotel stay. They pick you up at the airport and deliver you to the hotel and they pick you up the following day to take delivery of the car at the factory.

...only until you buy something like this.

When looking for a vehicle I consider reliability, safety, dependability and resell value. If I am going to pay for a vehicle, I would like to think I was getting my money's worth rather than the opposite.

2004 VOLVO S60 and S80 sitting on the lot side by side with same mileage and same equipment are retailing for the same amount. Around $22,000.

New, the S80 was on average $15k more than the S60. So my vehicle in the 4 years I have leased it has lost less than 30% of the new car value whereas the S80 has lost at least 50% of it's new car value. I would hate to be the one who paid significantly more for a car that the dealer pushed as being top of the line when all those added bells and whistles in the long run amount to...zilch.

In 4 months when the lease is up, the payoff is just a tad over $14K. It is a no brainer to buy this car rather than turn it in. It will have (retail) $8K equity that I will be able to barter with rather than the Volvo dealership reaping the benefit.
