vzw are all "bad" letters by popular culture only.
There are no bad letters. If there are bad letters, there will be no alphabet.
All letters are good letters in their respective market.

100% agree.

All letters in a domain name are good, if it has traffic :)

Well, to start with, I don't think W is a "bad" letter. Some people consider some letters are bad for 3-letter domains because they are not popular SURNAME initials or used in acronyms for commonly used words. However, many forget that 3 or 4 letter domains have a good market in non-English speaking world; and in China for instance, Z is a GOOD letter (along with Q and J).

You are correct there are no bad letters but there are letters that are better than others. At least that is what the market tell us.

Why.com contains 66% 'bad' letters. If someone wants to sell that to me for <$10k they've got a deal ;)

I quite agree with you tekz. We always say that a domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And if no-one wanted (say) SSD.com but 10 companies wanted QWZ.com, it's easy to think which is valued higher.

One minor point is that, perhaps it's just me, I do view some letters (especially 'S') as a 'premium' letter in that I find it aesthetically... pleasing (that sounds weird!). However the fact still remains that creating set lists of 'good' and 'bad' letters and valuing based on that isn't the best way to do things :)

There are no 'bad' letters but I would happily trade qxh.com for abc.com :)
For acronyms, some letters offer more possibilities than others.

Some letter are more commonly used.

Think of Wheel of Fortune. Great letters game.

Back in the day for the Final Word/Phrase they had you choose 5 letters and a vowel.

After a while everybody chose
R S T L N and E

Those are all premium letters. The show knew it, the players knew it, that's why they are all now given those letters to start with now.
They are used more than any other letters.

...But in the domain game and the Internet in general this doesn't necessarily apply. Flickr, Digg, Yelp...not words before, but are becoming part of the linguistical landscape.

how long have i been saying the same thing Tekz?

tell us ?

this is a real issue within our industry

constantly being told what is good and what is not

this is so true

and it will continue to change the way letters are arranged to make words or terms in the future
